Cool Most overpaid NBA players

Alot of these salaries are based on last season.

1. Rashard Lewis
2. Jermaine O'neal
3. Elton Brand
4. Zydrunas Ilgauskas
5. Brad Miller
6. Peja Stojakovic
7. Al Harrington
8. Andres Nocioni
9. Darius Songaila
10. Ben Gordon

Quote:
Through his first nine seasons in the NBA, Rashard Lewis(notes) grew impressively from a part-timer into a featured player in Seattle. Wielding the three-point shot as his main weapon – Lewis has drained nearly 4,000 of them during his career, seventh-most all-time – he became one of the league’s top scorers, averaging over 20 points per game between 2004 and 2007.

His reward: a six-year, $110-million contract with the Orlando Magic. The only problem is, aside from taking aim beyond the three-point arc, Lewis doesn’t do much on the court to help win games. He’s never been known for his defense or his passing, averaging fewer than two assists per game for his career. His rebounding also fell off in Orlando – he’s never averaged as many as six boards a game in three-plus years there, after doing so five times in Seattle. For a 6-foot-10 forward, that’s a problem. Then there’s his less-than-stellar shooting percentage: 43.5 percent last season, below his 45.6 percent average for his career.

RelatedWho is NBA's highest-paid player? It's not LeBron … Add it all up, and Lewis stands as the NBA’s most overpaid player, based on the last completed season of 2009-10.

He noses out Boston’s Jermaine O’Neal(notes) (who played in Miami last season), who averaged 13.5 in 28 minutes a game while making $23 million, and Philadelphia’s $14.5-million big man Elton Brand(notes), whose scoring dropped to 13 points a game last year. Filling out the top five: Miami center Zydrunas Ilgauskas(notes) (who was with Cleveland last season), a 44-percent shooter and tepid shot blocker who got $11.5 million, and Houston’s Brad Miller(notes) (who was with Chicago last season), who made over $12 million for mostly part-time duty.
Quote:
One take from the all-overpaid list: NBA general managers may make mistakes, but they learn from them. Six of last season’s 10 most overpaid players – O’Neal, Ilgauskas, Miller, Al Harrington(notes), Andres Nocioni(notes), and Darius Songaila(notes) – are playing in other cities this year. The Magic, unfortunately, are stuck with Lewis for three more years.

kind of an odd and useless list since it's 09-10 numbers and o'neal and ilgauskas are not on those contracts anymore...

I agree. The last part jeff quoted (about "learning from their mistakes") is just silly. The high contracts are an artifact of the CBA, where 10% annual raises over 5-6 years can give players getting a fair salary during their peak a hugely disproportionate salary just a couple years later. The reason those players are not in those cities is because their contracts expired. It did not require any wisdom on the part of the GMs.

Because he is still putting up a decent stat line, which is all that matters when the people writing the article don't actually watch the players they write about.

Wow, 5 foreigners.

It's last season top. Z has new contract. But the list is stupid. Yes, Songaila is overpaid, but he was Hornets 6th player last season and he earns 4.8 M. Gordon is overpaid, but he is not so terrible - 10.8 M. And really, wheres Hedo? - 9.8 M. Where is Redd? And i thing Edy Curry is a little overpaid too LOL

My this season lists would be :

Very overpaid Top 12

Eddy Curry - 11.2M (hands down #1)
Michael Redd - 18.3M (#2)
Samuel Dalembert - 12.2M
Predrag Stojakovic - 15.3M
Jeff Foster - 6.6M
Jason Kapono - 6.6M
Dan Gadzuric - 7.2
Vladimir Radmanovic - 6.8
Jared Jeffries - 6.8M
Gilbert Arenas - 17.7M
Andrei Kirilenko - 17.8M

Overpaid Top 12

Rashard Lewis - 20.5M (ridicoulas wage, but he is a good player)
Antawn Jamison - 13.3M
Kenyon Martin - 16.5M
Joel Przybilla - 7.4M
Andris Biedrins - 9M (very overpaid actually, but i can't prove it because he is in GSW)
Vince Carter - 17.3M (17m pension, wow...)
Jose Manuel Calderon - 9M
Hidayet Turkoglu - 9.8M (Any questions?)
Elton Brand - 16M
Zach Randolph - 17.3M (17M and 0 defense)
JJ Redick - 7.5M (Europe has tons of JJ Redicks)
Tyson Chandler - 12.7M
