Moon will undergo surgery on Thursday April 30 to repair a sports hernia injury.

He will accompany his Miami Heat teammates to Atlanta for Game 5 of their 1st round series against the Hawks, before returning to Florida for his surgery at Baptist Doctors Hospital in Miami.

The Heat are saying Moon will rest for two weeks following the procedure, and then be re-evaluated. Heat officials are saying that they expect the forward to miss the rest of the 2009 playoffs - no matter how far Miami advances (or not).

In 80 games this season (with the Raptors and Heat), Moon averaged 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.08 steals in 25.9 minutes per game.

how the hell do you get 'sports hernia'.
i thought people got hernia by lifting heavy objects or over exherting oneself to move or lift something.
what the hell was moon doing?

it's basically a muscle penetrating the smoth muscles above it as I am aware, but I might be wrong. it can happen on any movement. Most sports movements apply as much if not more stress than a simple lifting of weight anyhow.

poor chap.

Naw...someone will sign him, but for much less than the Raps or Heat would have given him if he wasnt mental.

I went for a block in volleyball once and felt what seemed like my ribs separating.

Where's that doctor guy??

for cases like jamario, it's quite easy to understand how he could come about having a sports hernia. being that he has never been required to use his brain out on the court, his body could easily handle the every day challenge he physically endures.

the problem that lead to this injury was that he had a play called for him. in order for him to comply, he had the strenuous task of pulling his head out of his ass. being that his head is full of rocks, it weighs a fair bit causing muscular strains on his groin area.

also, since he had his sack removed since his rookie season, the weight of his head cause damage to his groin area allowing his intestines to seep through.

Tough luck for Moon.

He'll definitely get a contract though... he's shown enough I think to keep a job for a while... he won't get big dollars but he has enough to earn a three year deal IMO.
