Monta Ellis: I Can't Play with Curry

Quote:
-Q: Can you see yourself playing with Curry in the backcourt?

-ELLIS: I canít answer that. Us together? No.

-Q: Why not?

-ELLIS: Canít. We just canít.

-Q: Too small? Too similar?

-ELLIS: Just canít.

-Q: The Warriors say you can.

-ELLIS: They say we can? Yeah. If they say it. But we canít.

-Q: You wouldnít want to give it a shot?

-ELLIS: I just want to win. ThatísÖ not going to win that way.

-Q: Why not?

-ELLIS: Itís different when youíre trying to compare me and Stephen, when youíre trying to go back to when me and BD were playing, itís a different situation.

Youíve got a nine-year veteran whoís been in the game, who understands the game, knows how to play the game, and heís a big bodyÖ

You canít put two small guys out there and try to play the 1 and the 2 when youíve got big 2 guards in the league. You just canít do it.

OK, yes, weíre going to move up and down fast, but eventually the game is going to slow down.

You canít do it.

Hes right, but like trane said you cant go around saying that it just creates a bad atmosphere around the team. Its bad enough their captain wants out, now this.

Their situation is fucked anyway, but this just makes it a lot worse.

They really should fire Nellie and look to go in a different direction with a more conventional coach. They have some good pieces, they just have to fill out the roster correctly instead of trying to just go small and outscore people.

Their frontcourt is going to be sick for many years if Randolph develops into the player many expect, and Biedrins is already a beast with an improving offensive game to go with his amazing rebounding and good shotblocking. You get a couple of good veterans and get Monta healthy and actually play a more conventional lineup with some defence and youve got osmething. Problem is their management is fucked up right now and their team has too many swingmen.

I don't know what to think of it. It didn't sound like he was hating on Curry, it sounded like he was telling what he thought was the truth. I agree with him. I think he should have dodged the question by saying something like "that's for coach to decide, not me."

The anarchist in me commends his individuality. The basketball fan in me however, is thankful not to be a GS supporter.

Barbosa is lightning fast and more of a SG. With Curry and Ellis, it's basically two undersized 2's. And neither of them are quick.

Ellis said right from the outset that if the team drafted Curry that it would pose problems and he'd demand out. So, really, no one should be surprised that this went down.

Well all of them are all 6'3 on NBA.com and wikipedia, but what you said was true that the Barbosa/Nash duo are bigger.

But wouldn't that make the GS backcourt faster and outrun other guards better?

Not necessarily. We don't know how Ellis' ankle is - it could still be fairly bad...and Curry, well, one of the knocks on him was his quickness and how he really isn't all that fast.

Barbosa was never a starter... he was always the 6th man.
im sure Ellis has no qualms about Curry coming in off the bench... he just doesnt want him to be starting.

I understand his argument, however, he's a massive idiot for airing that shit in the media.

He's as good as gone I bet.
