Millsap Offered 4yr Deal from Blazers

This just in:

Millsap offered 4yr deal from Blazers

Quote:
The Portland Trail Blazers elected Friday not to wait on trade possibilities, deciding instead to offer Utah Jazz restricted free agent Paul Millsap a four-year contract worth an estimated $32 million-to-$36 million, according to sources with knowledge of the Blazers' plans.

The Jazz, meanwhile, are expected to continue their push to trade Carlos Boozer in response, with the intent of creating sufficient distance from the luxury-tax line to enable Utah to comfortably match Millsap's offer.

Sources told ESPN.com that Millsap's offer sheet, which The Oregonian reports will be signed later Friday, includes a hefty signing bonus aimed at discouraging Utah from matching. The Jazz will have seven days from the time Millsap signs the offer sheet to make their decision and have been adamant for weeks that they will match, which meshes with the growing signs that Boozer might never play another game in Utah.

Wouldn't millsap have to play limited minutes behind Aldridge if this goes through? 9 mill a year seems hefty for a bench player if so.

Maybe they would trade him to Chicago? Apparently they want Hinrich and Chicago wants a scoring PF.
I don't know if it's allowed...

Unless Millsap oks a trade they cant trade him for a year once signing him, but Utah is 99% going to match because Boozer is 99% leaving after next year. If the Jazz somehow dont match, then I suppose POR will be dealing Pryzbilla in the offseason to fill out their starting 5 because you cant go into the season with 2 starters off of your bench getting less minutes than they should especially in Millsaps case. I guess theyre just toying with Utah right now.

POR just needs a solid 12-14 minute backup PF because their center position is set forever as long as Joel is comfortable which it seems like he is being near his home and still being a significant player. I think the split minutes at C idea +Aldridge palying 35 mpg and him having a backup vet big or just Outlaw playing both SF/PF is better than Millsap playing 30 mpg as the alternate because itd put Aldridge at C too much.

Pretty much all Portland needs is a PF who will fill in Frye's spot. A veteran PF would be a good move. Where is Joe Smith at?

well Utah is trading Boozer
I don't understand why Portland would want another PF
maybe they're forcing Utah to cough up more dough

Utah might not match because it'd put them into luxury tax hell if they did. But I think they're going to find a way to dump Boozer somewhere for a much smaller contract if necessary

Utah will match this for sure. Then they'll trade Boozer cuz Millsap is 100 times better then Boozer

Boozer is a better player but the honeymoon is over for Utah and him with him basically telling the whole world he doenst want to play there anymore. Boozers an asshole.

Millsap isnt as good but if youre looking to turn your team from a pussy team(which they are now) to a tougher grittier team than hes the way to go and them finding him in the 2nd round was one of the biggest steals ever.
