Heat Michael Beasley checks into Rehab

Quote:
Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley checked into an unidentified Houston rehabilitation hospital over the weekend, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Sources said the Heat encouraged Beasley to check into the facility to address possible substance and psychological issues. He is expected to spend time with former NBA player and coach John Lucas, who is renown for his success in working with troubled players.

When reached Monday morning, Miami Heat spokesman Tim Donovan declined comment. An NBA spokesman also declined comment.

Beasley’s admission comes after a handful of disturbing Twitter posts were attributed to him on Friday afternoon.

“Y do I feel like the whole world is against me…I can’t win for losin,” Beasley wrote.

“Feelin like it’s not worth livin!!!!!!! I’m done.”

Beasley’s frustration had been born out of a posed Internet photo on his personal Twitter page. In the photo, Beasley showed off on his back while two plastic baggies could be seen on a table in the background. Some people have speculated on the bags’ contents, even though the clarity of the photo makes it difficult to determine. After the photo became a fast-moving Internet story, Beasley posted the messages on his Twitter account before the page was shut down on Saturday night.

John Lucas is the same guy that worked with TJ while he was here if I'm not mistaken. Apparently he's quite the hardass.

Miami Heat's Michael Beasley shut out for Olympic tryout

A year ago, Michael Beasley stood second to only one on the day of the NBA Draft.

A year later, the Miami Heat forward stood as a mere afterthought Thursday, when USA Basketball named the 25 young prospects invited to attend its Olympic training camp this summer.

Included in the group are Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose, the only player selected ahead of Beasley in last year's draft, and Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin, the No. 1 pick Thursday night of the Los Angeles Clippers in this year's draft.

Beasley, in fact, is the only player among the first five selections in last June's draft not invited, with No. 1 Rose, No. 3 O.J. Mayo, No. 4 Russell Westbrook and No. 5 Kevin Love all receiving berths.

While Beasley did not start most of last season, his statistics, especially on a per-minute basis, were on par with many who received invitations. USA Basketball, however, has made character part of its selection criteria. Beasley was fined last fall by the NBA for his behavior at the league's rookie symposium and received numerous team fines this past season.

Among others who were selected who seemingly lack Beasley's pedigree were D.J. Augustin, Jerryd Bayless, Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver and Thaddeus Young.

"No one ever talked to me about that team," Beasley said Thursday night. "I don't know why I'm not on that team. I wish those guys the best."

Heat President Pat Riley said he had lobbied USA Basketball on Beasley's behalf.

"I've been involved in the process trying to get both Bease and (Mario) Chalmers considered," Riley said. "I do think he deserves a chance."

Riley said he believed Beasley would have benefited from the time in such a structured program around successful young players. The USA Basketball minicamp runs July 22-25 in Las Vegas.

No comment from me on Beasley, not my place.

I will say this though, oddly, you'll still hear the general public and the NBA media call Bargnani a "Bust" at #1, while his numbers are better, and he AIN'T in rehab.... I wonder when it will be socially acceptable to call Beasley one.

Let's hope he can turn this around. The league doesn't need any more Vin Bakers and he has so much talent to just piss it away.

People weren't calling Bargnani a bust after just one season.

"Tones" are subjective in written press. I heard no one calling him a bust.

Chris Broussard said in a video that Riley was the one who came and talked to Beasley and that this is mostly (if not wholly) for his marijuana use...

MARIJUANA?! BOO THIS MAN!
Marijuana is not a drug. I used to suck dick for coke. Now that's an addiction. You ever suck some dick for marijuana?

Seriously, this is some bullshit. The guy likes to smoke and he has to go to rehab? I thought Pat Riley was better than this.
