Default Melo Watch - blockbuster deal with knicks (update pg. 5-6)

Such a drama queen. I hope he gets it as bad as Lebron, he's doing the exact same thing, but during the season. Get him to New jersey and they will still suck. Let's use this thread to mock Carmelo, and keep each other updated on whats going on in melo land.

it's not him...
He's playing basketball, and trying to avoid talks. It's the media and the Nuggets' manager making such a big deal out of it. All Melo's said is that he does not plan to re-sign in Denver, which Lebron didn't do.

Interesting...

Quote:
Before resuming trade talks for Carmelo Anthony(notes) on Monday, the Denver Nuggets delivered a stern warning to the New jersey Nets: Unless the public nature of these trade discussions becomes private, be warned that we will send Anthony to the New York Knicks.

Nothing else the Nuggets could’ve said would send such chills of unease through the Nets, and that’s why Denver made the threat, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Quote:
With the framework of a trade between Denver, New jersey and Detroit in place Sunday that would have gone down as one of the largest in league history, the Nuggets kept pushing to make it even bigger on Monday after it was reportedly nearing completion. According to sources with knowledge of the negotiations, the Nuggets' insistence that the Nets take back forward Al Harrington and his deal that runs through 2015 and has a combined $28 million remaining is the cause of the latest delay.

Quote:
Sources told ESPN.com, though, that the Nuggets are not only angry with the fact that so many details from the trade talks have gone public, but also are determined to make at least one significant change to the structure of the deal. Denver, sources said, is now insisting on the inclusion of Nuggets forward Al Harrington in the trade before signing off. ESPN.com

Melo isnt the drama queen... he isnt giving up (like some players we've seen in the past), nor is he lying to his team about re-signing (like some we've also seen in the past).
everyone knows he isnt re-signing in Denver, and Denver is on the clock.
this thing is getting out of hand though.

Melo only joked about joining up with Amare and Chris Paul and then made it clear he would only sign with NY. Yeah - he's a godsend as a class guy. He's not helping his current team at all, unless all the distraction is somehow helpful, and if he makes it impossible to trade him then he's going to kill them in the future as well.

Carmelo Anthony: Could Houston Rockets Steal 'Melo Away From New jersey Nets?

In the most recent addition to the saga that surrounds a possible Carmelo Anthony trade, the Houston Rockets have thrown their name into the ring as a possible destination for the Denver Nuggets forward.

Carmelo Anthony has been linked to the New jersey Nets since before the season even started and it seemed as if Anthony going to either New jersey or New York was pretty much a done deal.

But as talks between New jersey and Denver have stalled yet again, this time over the inclusion of Al Harrington, is it possible that Houston could swoop in and trade for Anthony before New Jersey?

The biggest reason Denver wants to include Al "Mr. Gets Buckets" Harrington in the Carmelo mega-deal is to get rid of his contract, which equals to about $33 million over the next five years.

Now Houston doesn't have nearly as much to offer Denver in the form of young talent, but they have more than enough expiring contracts to offer delicious salary relief to Denver.

New jersey has been said to have offered up Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow, Quinten Ross, Ben Uzoh and Stephen Graham to the Nuggets, along with a few other players to Detroit, to make the deal work financially.

What the Rockets can do to lure Denver into talks for Carmelo Anthony would be to offer up the expiring contract of Yao Ming, which is worth over $17 million of cap relief, along with Shane Battier's and Jared Jeffries' expiring contracts, which equal up to another $13.5 million.

Jeff Gross/Getty Images In terms of young players, Houston could offer up Kevin Martin or Aaron Brooks (probably not both) to throw into the deal and get a third team involved, like Detroit, which has been very willing with the New Jersey-Denver trade, or Cleveland, which would trade the water boy at this point.

There is also the fact that they have the New York Knicks' 2012 draft pick as well, which they would probably be willing to part with.

The biggest caveat in the Rockets trading for Carmelo would have to be his willingness to sign an extension to stay in Houston, which seems low.

He has expressed that he wants to play in New York or for a team that can contend for a title, and it isn't very clear whether Houston would be considered a contender with Anthony.

If he does think that he would like to play in Houston for the next few years, however, then this trade is extremely possible, as Denver is growing increasingly frustrated with New jersey during this trade process.

The Nuggets have even accused New jersey of intentionally leaking every step of the trade to the press in order to pressure the young Denver front office into finalizing the trade.

I don't see him going to the Rockets. I would take Favors, Harris, and those first round picks. NJ will cave and take Harrington, or they will bring in another team to take him.

i dont think so. those expirings could lead to a signing like paul and dwight for example. they could tank next year by signing one year deals with washed up vets or budding youngins, keep any youngins they have, and hope to lure those guys over, thus screwing carmelo's contender dreams

I doubt Melo will get traded to Houston, but that would be great for their fanbase. They already have some solid pieces to build on.

who's calling him a godsend and a class guy?
and when exactly did he say that he wasnt going to re-sign? i always thought it was just assumption.

truthfully, i would have appreciated if Bosh told us in January that he wasnt going to re-sign... then we'd have gotten something back in return other than a big fat 'fuck you'... and a tweet asking his fans where he should sign.

He said he wanted to be traded, and then made it clear that NY was about the only place that he would sign an extension for.

And it wouldn't have made a difference regarding Bosh. He had no interest in a trade like this. He wanted the open market. Melo has himself boxed in, and needs to resign somewhere before the new CBA takes away all his best options financially. Denver was just lucky that Melo played his cards very badly. But even so he stands in the way of getting something done.

The New York Knicks have reached out to Memphis about participating in a three-team deal that would send Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo to Denver and Carmelo Anthony to New York, according to league sources.

Talks are in the infant stages and nothing is imminent, but the discussions are a sign of the Knicks' increased aggressiveness in trying to trade for Anthony.

Emboldened by their belief that Anthony will refuse to sign a three-year, $65 million contract extension with the New jersey Nets, the Knicks have stepped up their efforts to bring the Nuggets star to New York.

Anthony

Mayo
The Knicks have tried to engage Denver in trade talks all season, but the Nuggets, unmoved by the players New York has to offer, have been unwilling to partake in significant discussions. Sources, however, say that is changing as the Nuggets themselves wonder whether Anthony is willing to go to New Jersey.

The Knicks understand they need to recruit another trade partner or two in order to put together a package Denver would be interested in, and that's their motivation for inquiring about Mayo. It is not clear at this point whether Denver is actively involved in the talks with Memphis.

Mayo, who has had a disappointing and controversial season in Memphis, is on the trading block, and the Knicks' hope is that he would satisfy Denver's desire for a promising young prospect. Though the third-year guard is coming off the bench and scoring less than 13 points a game this season, Mayo averaged 18 points over his first two years.

After rumors of the trade surfaced Thursday, Mayo said he would not be happy with a trade to Denver, according to sources.

The Knicks' only interest in Mayo is to aid them in acquiring Anthony.

The Knicks will also need at least one first-round draft pick to grab Denver's attention, and New York is confident it can get such a pick for Anthony Randolph from one of several clubs. Sources say Indiana was willing to trade a first-round pick to New York for Randolph last summer.

Any Knicks package for Anthony would also likely include some combination of Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari or Landry Fields.

Compare the proposed Melo trades to the Vince Carter trade in 2004...
