Nuggets 'Melo': "Time for a change"

I really can't stand Carmelo. Never have. Never will.

He's a gifted scorer but I don't think he's a great basketball player.

Quote:
Not long after George Karl made his triumphant return with a resounding victory over the Utah Jazz, the Denver Nuggets coach had an important announcement for the assembled media. Despite Carmelo Anthony’s(notes) well-chronicled efforts to push for a trade, Karl said, the Nuggets are ”going to keep him here whether he knows it or not.”

Anthony later laughed off his coach’s attempt at humor because that’s all it was – a joke. For all the goodwill inspired by the Nuggets’ season-opening rout of their Northwest Division rival, Anthony told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday night that he still doesn’t intend to sign the team’s three-year, $64 million contract extension.
Quote:
”They want to sit down and talk, but my thing is it’s way beyond this year,” Anthony told Yahoo! Sports after scoring a team-high 23 points in the Nuggets’ victory. ”It ain’t got nothing to do with the new GM, Josh, the players. For me, I feel it’s a time for change.

”If I do nothing now, I’m never going to do anything. I feel like my time is now to make a decision if I want to leave or if I want to stay.”

Good for 'Melo. He plays hard for Denver and whatever the franchise invested in him, he's returned by making 'em a playoff contender for damn near all the seasons he's been there.

I'm curious, why don't you think Melo is a great basketball player?

Why? Because I think he coasts too often.

I don't think he's a great defender and he really needs the ball in his hands to be effective.

I do think he's one of the top 5 gifted scorers in the league but that's really it.

Also, Billups made that team a WC contender. Anthony just makes them a playoff contender.

Carmelo was MILES better when he played in college at Syracuse.

Back then he rebounded, passed and even defended a bit.... now he just cares about scoring. He IS very good at it though and would probably make a nice tandem with Amare in N.Y.

Melo is so good at scoring he makes people forget he's pretty damn good at the other parts of the game as well. He's not going to make the NBA all defensive squad, but he is still a top 6-7 player in the league. Not just a scorer, but player.

His last 4 seasons he's averaged close to 7rpg. Rebounding in the NBA is more difficult then in College. And 7rpg is very good for a SF in the NBA. I wouldn't say he doesn't care about anything but scoring. He's a top 10 player in the league imo.
