Mavericks Melo to Dallas?

If this happened, Dallas would be tough to beat in the playoffs.

Quote:
The Mavericks are aggressively trying to acquire Carmelo Anthony, according to league source.

Dallas isn't concerned about receiving any assurances from Anthony about signing a long-term deal after the season.

Mark Cuban is eager not only to add Anthony to an already dangerous roster, but also to steal him from the Nets and billionaire rival Mikhail Prokhorov.

The Mavericks are planning what one rival executive described as a "hard" push.

They have yet to make a concrete offer to the Nuggets for Anthony.

The Rockets are also believed to be a team that is interested in either landing Anthony or becoming a third-team in any team.

Ken Berger of CBS Sports writes that in order for a team like the Mavericks to land Anthony, they'll have to shift Denver's focus towards "rental" deals because there's no way they can compete with what the Nets can offer.

Kidd
Butler
Melo
Nowitzki
Chandler

Obviously they probably wouldn't be able to get him without including Butler or another key player, but still very impressive lineup. And really with Kidd and Dirk's age it makes sense to go for it now. They see an opportunity and should go for it imo.

If Melo goes to Dallas, he'll only get two or three chances at the championship? Don't know why he would go there since Dallas' whole lineup is passed 30. He needs to think about the long haul. To go to Chicago, NJ, and New York, he can make those team contenders for a while because they have young players and players in their prime.

Just makes me wonder if Melo could handle being "second banana" to Dirk.

Would definitely make them dangerous in a long playoff run though.

Not sure about that.... Wade and Lebron are far better defensively.

You think Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett thought the same thing?
Things that make you go hmmmmmm

Melo on the MAvs would be downright crazy. My pick for the west for sure.

Ray Ray and KG were in their 30's when they were traded. Melo is still 26 and possibly not even have reached his prime yet and should be traded to a younger team so he can match up with the Heat and their age for years to come. Obviously going to Dallas would make them awsome, but for how long? Kidd could retire in the next couple years, Nowitzki is still very good but his numbers could drop in 2-3 years. Terry is 33, Marion is 32.

But whatever, there really is no need to talk about this, I doubt he is going to the Mavs anyway. Very little to offer to Denver in terms of youth and potential, other than Beaubois.

I don't know why they would do this, their team is already looking very good. Imo you add a scorer like Melo it makes your offense overly complicated. Also it seems like this Mavs team is finally playing some D, why introduce this kind of change. But I guess thats Cuban for you.

Its weird because if you watch them both, they get the ball in the same spots and take a lot of the same shots on offence in the halfcourt. Lots of side isos on both sides of the floor, either facing up and taking the jumper or 1 dribble pullups, or going to the rim to get fouled. Neither really posts up much unless they have a fairly sizeable mismatch.

Normally I would say having 2 guys who need isos, much like in Miami, wouldnt work, but with Kidd as their PG its hard to say it wouldnt because Kidd is so damn good at keeping his teammates happy and getting them the ball in the right spots.

If anyone else was DALs PG I would definately say this 2 man tandem wouldnt work, but with Kidd I think this might be able to catapult them past the Lakers.

All Lies

Quote:

Cuban Denies Carmelo Reports

Mark Cuban told the Star-Telegram that there is no truth to a CBS Sports report that the Mavericks are trying to acquire Carmelo Anthony from the Nuggets.

Sources told Ken Berger of CBS Sports that Anthony would be a "rented" player for the Mavericks, who would be unlikely to re-sign him as a free agent after the season.

Cuban said he was furious when he read the report.

"If [Ken Berger] is going to make things up, the reporter should at least be honest enough to say he is making things up," Cuban said. "Not one grain of truth to anything he said."

I think your looking beyond the obvious here. Dirk is putting MVP numbers, he and melo have pretty much the same role on offense. Why would you screw with a successful program. I don't think you need 25+ point scorer at every position to be successful. The Mavs imo are not going to improve that much for the price they would be paying, ie recalibrating an offense and defense to please an all star.

Are you really arguing that Cuban has not been a little over the top in assembling "top players" in trying to win a Champlonship.

Successful program yes, championship no. All i'm saying is that window is closing, they have alot of talent, but as currently constructed would you say they are a serious favourite to beat elite teams, their current record aside past the second round they likely wouldn't be the favourite. Melo might help in that aspect and give them a better chance of getting to the finals.
