Mavericks Mayo opting out, will be UFA this summer

Not surprising....

Quote:
O.J. Mayo will opt out of his contract with the Dallas Mavericks, making him a free agent this coming offseason.

"Getting something long term, locking something in is what I think is best for me," Mayo said Thursday after his exit interview with Rick Carlisle and Donnie Nelson.

Mayo has yet to seriously consider teams that might be a fit for him.

"I'm sure new teams have popped up on the list," Mayo said. "I need to talk to my agent [Rob Pelinka] and see what we can work out."

doesn't give a fuck.

Dude, of course... heck, even 36 year old Vince had a better year than DeRozan. Sick how this guy is overhyped here!

He showed up for the first half of the season, now he's being thrown under the bus by his coach. You don't like Bargnani, but you like this tool?

Please, comparing Mayo to Bargnani is asinine.

Jeff, you're smarter than that…its not all about numbers(which isn't all that impressive),curious to know why you'd take Mayo over DeRozan,as you say,"in a heartbeat"?

Memphis, let him walk for nothing,Carlisle has shitted on him all year, after two games Mayo's former teammate Rudy Gay already "indirectly" said DeRozan is better. I like Mayo, but he's not a better player than DeRozan(convincingly). I can understand if we we're talking about Stephen Curry(same draft class as Demar) but for a player who came in with way more hype than Derozan,he's essentially on the same level at best.

Pretty simple, he has more talent and a higher ceiling. It's funny, i said the same thing about 6 weeks ago and most agreed with me. Let me guess, Derozan's last two weeks has everyone think Derozan is better? lol

Mayo is better defensively, is a better passer, better ball handler, is a better 3pt shooter which is very important on this team and is sorely needed. More experience in the playoffs. He would be a far better fit beside Gay. Like i said.....in a heartbeat.

He admitted this was said to pump up his new young teammate. I wouldn't take that too seriously....you think DD is the best SG he's ever played with............really? lol

Correct because you say so? lol

Whatever, we're not getting Mayo anyway so this is all pointless.

Even though I disagree,I now understand why you'd take Mayo over DeRozan. Demar's supposed poor defense is overstated in my opinion, yes it needs improvement but it's not like his counterpart is putting up career numbers on him on a nightly basis. His support defense is okay. His biggest area's of weakness are his 3 point shooting, transition dribbling and moving without the ball on offense. Passing is getting better but sure, not as good as Mayo's, then again how relevant is the SG'S ability to pass on this team? I disagree that it's a huge need from that position. I think his size for a SG 6'7,200 lb+,being able to post up and attack the hoop, endurance and ability to stay injury free as a SG are undervalued.

Yes,he probably is the best Rudy's played with considering over the 30+ games alongside DeRozan ,Gay has been averaging close to or equalling career bests in the main statistics and that's after a trade at midseason, imagine how well they can become after a full off season and training camp?

Spot on. DD can develop some ball handling and his upside is OJ Mayo. Yay.
