How Lebron James' exit has impacted Cleveland's economy | The Atlanta Post

That far, far, far away, out-of-sight, out-of-LBJ’s mind land would be Cleveland, the banks of Lake Erie, a mere stone’s throw from the uber humble origins of one King James. Indeed, to say that things have shifted just a bit economically across all of Ohio over the last nine months or so would be akin to saying the Cavaliers simply didn’t rate as contenders this season. For no matter how you calculate it—in terms of wins and losses or dollars and cents — the change has been revolutionary.

Even the most modest of financial estimates, those relegated to simply what James’ departure has meant to the city’s downturn area, peg the downturn at the high end of $50 million. And the Cavs…need we go on?

so they lost taxes on food, beer, seats, and merch. big whup. and it couldn't have been that bad because as far as I know the vast majority of season seat holders in cleveland renewed their seats thinking LeBron was coming back.

i'm sure the bars would like to have him back in a big way, but cleveland was shit before LeBron, it was shit during LeBron, and it will be shit going forward.

While reading through a bunch of non sense posts, i have come to one conclusion, If your hating on Lebron this much, you honestly need a life. Fine he is a douche bag and ill be the first to admit it. Ohio must be a fucked up state if there economy ran on one man, its time for them to grow a set of balls, and stop being pussies. Governs have more important things to do then get involved in this shit. Other then that let the guy play ball, you dont have to like him, but dont be so into his life, cause he aint really returning the favour.

P.S.
Its sad how basketball forums turn into a forum full of gossips queens during the off season

Please don't think all of Ohio is about LeBron. Cleveland. If it was up to me I would let Michigan take Cleveland.

Yes and that is 1000000000X more important than whatever LeBron did to Cleveland. No doubt about it.

I read that article and there's very little supporting data.

There's two economic professors (not economists) providing their analysis but with little evidence to support it.

Honestly I know nothing about cleveland's economy so im in no position to take any sides.

I just saw your post and did a simple google search and posted what I found. And yes I agree there is little supporting data but it was the most I could find for either side.

Pathetic... really pathetic. Hard to believe that the Governor of a state would endorse this.

People in Ohio hate Lebron for "damaging their economy".... really? Do these people realize that Lebron was probably entirely responsible for the economic upturn in the city of Cleveland for the last 7-8 years? The idea that he somehow "sunk the city" by leaving is ludicrous. WTF was Cleveland doing BEFORE Lebron played for them?

They don't hate him for damaging the economy.... but if you don't think he handled leaving like a moron then you're clearly looking at the situation with blinders. It's ridiculous that he has refused to acknowledge that and his arrogance has left people from his home state bitter. He even bashed Cleveland on his way out. Eventually that hate will subside, and while alot of it is excessive, it's not without merit.

Oh, I agree that "The Decision" was the worst mistake of his career thus far... and I'm fairly sure that he's said he regretted the way that he handled that...

.... but the people of CLE need to take a step back and realize that they were pretty much gifted a top 3 player for 7 years who consistently took them to the playoffs, won 60 games and even went to the Finals. You know how many cities would KILL to have that kind of success? Even short-term?

As much as I despise Vince for what HE did to us I can still recognize that he put our franchise on the map for a few years and generate more excitement than this team has enjoyed since.

But it wasn't just The Decision. It was his comments after about being from Akron and about taking names and shit..... the guy was a moron to not let it go and just go about his business. His arrogance was unfathomable. That shizz breeds hate.... He brought it upon himself. Even after the final he still was intent on making everyone know that he's still fighting the battle with his opposing fans. Why is that even coming into the discussion..... just ignore it. He just can't or refuses to.

No doubt about it! Top 3 team preseason again and Jared Sullinger is going to be a beast again this year. Even better than last year. Dude is working out like crazy and getting his body in shape.
