Mavericks Mavs aren't offering Chandler an extension, he'll become a UFA

Quote:
Sources told ESPN.com that there has been minimal conversation between the Mavericks and Tyson Chandler about an extension since Dallas won the first championship in franchise history on June 12.

As badly as the Mavericks want the vocal Chandler back to reprise his role as the most impactful frontcourt sidekick Dirk Nowitzki has ever played with, team officials are apparently determined to see exactly how restrictive the new salary-cap rules are after the lockout before trying to re-sign the Team USA big man.

Chandler finished third in the league last season in NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting after averaging 10.1 points and 9.4 boards while playing in 74 of 82 games despite concerns about his injury history.

If we want him, we need to hope for a new salary cap situation that fucks Dallas.

Why wouldn't they give him like a really shit offer sheet so at the very least he'd be restricted and if they don't want to sign him they can't.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Chandler was set to be a UFA no matter what this off season, offer sheets mean nothing in this situation.

Correct. He was set to be a UFA no matter what. The only advantage Dallas had was the ability to talk to him about an extension before July 1st.

I trust Donnie Nelson.

The guy wouldn't take such a huge risk if he didn't have a thorough understanding of the situation with a sufficient contingency plan.

No ones signing anyone until a new CBA is reached and Dallas still has his bird rights (assuming that rule stays) so it's realistically just a formality.

Looks like he wants to re-sign a nice contact and is willing to leave...

Tyson Chandler Keeping Free Agent Options Open

Whenever the NBA lockout ends and a frenzied free-agency period begins, Tyson Chandler and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, know he will have the entire league -- or at least those teams with spending power -- in the palm of his large hand.

"It's a great point in my career, and I'm coming up under free agency and there's a lot of great teams out there, a lot of great opportunities out there, a lot of up-and-building things," Chandler said Wednesday in a phone interview. "So, I mean, I've got to take a look at all that. I've got to take everything into consideration, and the good thing is I'm on a good side. I'm coming off an incredible year, so it's not a situation where it's worrisome.

"It's going to be a lot that comes into play," Chandler said. "I've got a family, so I want to make sure I put my family in a good situation, where my kids will be comfortable going to school, being able to adjust. That's my No. 1 priority. Being on the court, my surroundings, my teammates, the organization, the history of the organization, our chances, the type of impact I'll make. All that stuff is going to come into play. It's a long list."

I still think he's a possiblity to sign here. The only problem is he'd likely want a 4-5yr deal.

i hope the new CBA leaves us with a nice chunk of change to pursue him, or at least enough flexibility to work a S&T to get him in toronto.

hopefully there won't be 4-5 year deals once things are settled. i think the owners were looking for 3-4 max, weren't they?

I think it's pretty obvious he's one guy we'll be targeting.

No they want to reduce the Max contracts to either 4 or 5yrs. I hope it's 4yrs. I'd sign him to a 4yr deal @ 10-12Mil per without hesitating to be honest. After his 3rd season we'll know if Jonas is ready to be the Starter and Chandler can be moved as an expiring.

Or we keep him at that point too. I agree though, without hesitation. This guy would be a catalyst for change.

He's good, and with his snaggletoe fixed, his career is gonna take off. Remember, he's a defender, his game reminds me of Przybilla back in his hayday. Chandler can get really confused on offense if you don't supply him with shooters.

Hold on... Przybilla had a hayday???? What day was that? Was it a road game?

Anyhow, his list doesn't have "move to a new country and teach my kids canadian history and the screwy metric system" anywhere on it. It also DID have "chances" on it.

He ain't signing here, ever. NONE OF THEM ARE.

Don't you guys get it.

wouldn't be surprised to see dallas trade haywood to make room for chandler,

either raps got to be in on, especially with the salary cap situation changing i could see dallas forced to move one center
