Martin heading to Rockets - tmac to knicks - updated on pg 2

Quote:
The Houston Rockets, in an abrupt late twist to their long-running efforts to trade Tracy McGrady, have reached an agreement in principal with the Sacramento Kings to acquire coveted guard Kevin Martin, ESPN.com has learned.

Martin was pulled from the second half of the Kings' game Wednesday night at Golden State in anticipation of the trade, sources said.

Although the details of the complete construction of the trade could not immediately be confirmed, sources said that it's possible that the deal could be expanded into a three-way trade that lands Rockets guard Tracy McGrady with the New York Knicks before Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline.
Sources: Houston Rockets agree to acquire Sacramento Kings' Kevin Martin - ESPN

King lost very badly to GSW; maybe it was a tough loss because K-mart left rofl

Houston is a good fit for Martin because they were lacking a bit offensively. Now the last piece of the puzzle for them is getting Yao back from injury next season and then they can contend with the big dogs LA, Dallas, etc

I think the biggest story in all this is Houston included Carl fucking Landry.

What the hell?

It's a great deal for the Kings. They ditch Martin's salary while getting a talented young player in return. Landry has one of the most cost-efficient contracts in the league, and he's a legit contender for both the MIP and 6th man awards. If this trade goes through, the Kings will have a handful of cheap young players. Consequently, they will be waaaay below the cap this summer. With their handful of efficient contracts, they could afford to overpay a little for a big name free agent or pick up a really good player via a lopsided trade. In fact, they'll have enough cap space to sign two significant free agents, assuming players are willing to come.

Well they can't start Battier and Martin and I don't think either of them want to come off the bench.

Can we get Battier now?

We don't really have anything the Rockets would want in exchange for Battier, at least nothing Colangelo is willing to give up. And Battier is a class act, so I doubt he'll create a fuss if he comes off the bench. If Adelman plays a tight 3 man rotation for the 2 wing spots (Martin, Ariza, Battier), he can still give Battier 25+ minutes of PT. Ariza probably plays a little too much as it is, so some of Martin's minutes can come from him. The rotation could look like the example below.

96 minutes of PT at the 2 and 3:

Martin 35 minutes
Ariza 35 minutes
Battier 26 minutes

Adelman could adjust it a bit from game to game, depending on what's working. Some games, Battier could get 30+ minutes as a back up.

second that

I'm surprised they went for Martin too to be honest. Thought Hill + picks was a better option actually.

No way the rocket's should have gave up landry
for a some what unproven guy that plays 45 games a year and makes around 12 million for the next three season's after this

i would have taken martin over hedo any day but i dont think he's worth any asset's with that contract

too early to say. there are rumours he'll end up on the Knicks after all. I'm sure he would get a chance to play there.

Landry too?

Wow! The Kings get a huge expeiring contract + Landry. Nice deal for both teams imo, but Sacremento did a good job here. Now they'll have the money to go after a big + complimentary players and will have a nother lottery pick this summer, and have Caspi/Evans/Landry to build around. They'll be pretty good in a couple years.

Caspi/Evans/Landry is a good core? since when?

I gaurantee you that core will not even come close to a WCF (not world cup final ) appearance or even a 2nd round appearance.

That's a terrible core on par with a Biedrins/Ellis/Curry core.

The best part is McGrady as an expiring obviously. If they are smart, they will resign him to a contract.

i'm thinking that casspi/evas/landry/hawes and a marquee free angenct is a pretty damn good core. add a couple of complimentary pieces, a couple of rookies, and then an mle player or two over the next couple of years and they are well on their way.

Caspi/Evans/Landry is pretty good. Especially if they can spend their capspace on a good big + a bench and add another lottery pick.

I don't write what I don't believe. If you guys think that's a good core, I'd be willing to bet money that they wont win a playoff series in the next 3 years.

Much like someone who wanted to bet $50 Vince wouldn't score more than 10 the game after his 48 point smacking, but has consistently put up 15+ the week before and the games after that date.

Caspi (not good), Landry (confusing... but not good), Evans (pretty good). Is NOT a good core.
