Being reported on Yahoo! Sports.

Interesting to see how he'll be like as a coach.

First-time coach with a young roster.

Mark Jackson named head coach of Golden State Warriors - ESPN

Quote:

Former NBA player and current ESPN analyst Mark Jackson has been named the new head coach of the Golden State Warriors.

"After an extensive search and a great deal of consideration, we have come to the conclusion that Mark Jackson is the best coach for this team," Warriors general manager Larry Riley said. "He will bring a youthful and fresh approach to our team and the fact that he enjoyed a stellar playing career, where he served most of that time as the leader of some very successful teams, will prove invaluable in the long run."

Jackson has never coached before but played under five Hall of Fame coaches during his collegiate and professional career.

"We were looking for a coach with leadership ability and a strong personality and believe Mark possesses those qualities," Riley said. "He's very well respected in NBA circles, is a consummate professional and his knowledge and background will be an incredible asset for our team and organization."

Jackson has a very high basketball IQ, I could tell by his commentating work, he was very informative and also during his playing days he was a great floor general.

I like and respect Mark Jackson. I'm sure he'll do well.

For a sec I thought this was Raptors news, you may want to edit the title.

jeffb 06-06-2011 09:45 PM

If he had been hired here people would be having a conniption. lol

Now watch, whoever we hire will be extremely polarizing.

Hence the Golden State logo on the thread...

This is fucking awesome! It means I don't have to listen to his lame ass commenting during games!

Now would somebody please hire Chris Mullin and Jalen Rose. Those two are boring as fuck.

You can't see it on the front page. 'NEW head coach' is pretty broad.

He should remain a commentator.

Aamir 06-06-2011 10:21 PM

Yeah because he's so disapointed he won't be coaching in GS. :cwm34:

Did GSW management not watch the games he did? I always thought his prospects of landing a job diminished by the minute during the broadcasts he worked on.
