Mavericks Mark Cuban would consider drafting Brittney Griner

Quote:
LOS ANGELES -- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban would be willing to give Baylor women's star Brittney Griner the opportunity to prove she could play in the NBA.

SportsNation: Is Griner NBA ready?

Mark Cuban is interested in seeing what Brittney Griner can do in the NBA. Is Griner NBA ready?
Vote!

Cuban said he would consider selecting Griner, a 6-foot-8 three-time All-American and Big 12 player of the year, in the second round of the NBA draft. If the Mavs don't draft her, Cuban said he would have "no problem whatsoever" inviting Griner to try out for a spot on Dallas' summer league team.

"If she is the best on the board, I will take her," Cuban said before the Mavs' Tuesday night game against the Los Angeles Lakers. "I've thought about it. I've thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I'd lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it. You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it's not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it."

Griner dominated women's college basketball with her size and athleticism, scoring 3,283 points and blocking 748 shots in her career. She also had 18 dunks, including 11 her senior season.

Griner would love the opportunity. "I would hold my own! Lets do it." she wrote on Twitter on Tuesday night in response to Cuban.

she'd be eaten alive in the NBA.

in any case, why waste a draft pick on her at any point in the draft. sign her as a FA.

They've spent the last decade wasting draft picks, this one would be no different.

I don't know why people care so much, I'd be all for it. She'd be fulfilling the original Cheryl Miller prophecy.

Nobody will draft her, give Cubn credit, he has ZERO to lose signing her after the draft and letting her suit up with the Summer League team.....and if she kills it....hahaha AWESOME!

I would love to see Griner in the league just for 10 minutes, come in in a game vs. the Heat, dunk on Bosh, then retire and get inducted into the hall of fame.
216 fans like this.

She shouldn't even waste her time and miss the start of the Euro season. She's a 6'8 center who's not that special physically compared to men.

She should just go and sign up with a Euro team. Best women players can earn over 1 mil a year. She's likely going to be richer than most NBA 2nd rounders anyway.

I think one day we'll have great NBA women players but they will be point guards or shooting guards, maybe small forwards with great skills game. Steph Curry types.

Obviously she wouldn't be a Center in the NBA...

women are naturally weaker then men, sure, their might be stronger women than me standing at give or take 5'10. but the strongest men? no chance.

I looked at it quick and thought he said he would consider dating her, not drafting her.

what do you mean, she'd play PF? In that case, sure, C or PF. Either way she has to stay inside and be a 6'8 210 pound inside defender who's not a super athlete compared to men.

If you mean she's going to become a SG or SF in the NBA, then i don't agree. She's Alonzo Mourning of women basketball, that's her skillset. what's she going to do on the perimeter. She can't shoot 3s, she's not used to guarding Rudy Gay types. She's a rim protector.

Are women even allowed to play in the NBA? She would just get destroyed defensively.
