Shawn Marion apparently has said that what ever teams trades for him, he wants a long term extension from them. This is being reported at CBS Sports.
Would Colangelo want to keep Marion long term? Hmmmmmmm This probably means Phoenix won't take him.

So long, Shaq? Adios, Amare? Suns seek solutions as deadline nears - NBA - CBSSports.com Basketball

Better question would be, would Marion want to be in Toronto long term? I say no!

If we get him would we have to give him an extension or does Marion decide???

No and we're not about to offer him the money he's expecting either. He's already quoted in saying that he deserves close to $20 million per season.

Could happen a couple different ways i think:

1) Raptors/Marion/Riley agree on a number and Miami signs him then trades him to Toronto
2) The trade goes through and the Marion decides this summer if he wants to take any potential offer from the Raps.

Marion is grossly overrated too. If he comes here I hope its only short term. He's not what we need long term.

Hahhhhhh! He won't get that no matter where he goes. I think his scoring is down this season because of his situation with Wade getting 60% of the shots. But he's at best an 18/9 player. That will get him about 13-15 Million dollars imo.

Still too much in my opinion. He's a $10-$11 million per season player at best right now. Nash made him alot better than he was on offense in Phoenix.

If we just want the capspace, does it matter? He doesn't have a trade veto. We're not forced to give him an extension because he wants it

I don't mind Marion. He's a wing that can get us 10 boards per night and play pretty good defence. And is an unbelieveable unpgrade from the shit we currently have at the SF spot. But i don't see us paying him more then maybe 12 Million and unless we can dump Banks contract i wouldn't sign him to an extension.

Oh, absolutely MVP. I was referring to an extension he wants. As for dealing for him now to finish out the season I'm all for it. Just nothing long term with Marion. Marion's not the type of player we want long term. He's very selfish and we need more of a team player.

to me Marion is the ideal 3, he can guard anyone on the court and finish around the rim, plus you don't ahve to run plays for him, he'll get 15pts and guard there best offensive player

plus our team is abnormal with our bigs being the the threats on offensively, Bosh and Bargnani somebody like marion would help out with a healthy jose who needs to start looking at his game videos from last year and start pushing the pace

No one is going to pay him that. 11 million max is what he'll get. No one is going to break the bank on this guy with next summer on the horizon.
