Lakers Marc Stein: Rival Execs Speculate About Rudy Gay Ending Up With Lakers

I still think they should move Howard and not Gasol (unless its to the raps lol).

Quote:
The Boston Celtics have held exploratory trade talks with the Memphis Grizzlies on Rudy Gay.

More than one team has speculated that a three-way trade that would send Pau Gasol to the Celtics, Paul Pierce to the Grizzlies and Rudy Gay to the Lakers makes "some sense".

Pierce's $15.3 million salary for next season is guaranteed for only $5 million, which would make his contract tradable.

Memphis would be stupid to do this, period. It's a no brainer for Boston obviously.

Yes, however if it is true that Memphis wants to save some more $ then it isn't stupid for them.

They don't have to save shit now since they made that deal last week, they're now apparently 6mil under the tax threshold. They'd be stupid to trade Gay unless they get a player in his prime.

I honestly think Pierce is a much better fit in MEM and he'd give them a much better shot of winning the West than Gay. He doesnt need the ball and need to hold the ball as much as Rudy, and I think he'd mesh well as an off the ball player more in that offence than Rudy. And then in the 4th hes obviously a better crunch time player than Rudy, so he'd help them there as well.

Paul Pierce is going on 36yrs old. If they dealt Gay they better also get Bradley imo or another good young piece. Anyway, this has no merit to it. Pure speculation, if this went down i'd eat my shoes.

If MEM is looking to get rid of Gay because they've finally come to the realization that he's not going to fit with their frontcourt, then getting Pierce and his expiring deal back is good for them. Not only is Pierce a better player and fit, but it gives them flexibility in the offseason to restructure their 2/3 positions. They're got a great core in place, now they just need to find the right fits on the wings(and this way they can go back to playing more inside out with Randolph and Gasol, something that almost got them to the conference finals). Gays contract is toxic, and getting Pierce back is pretty good I think for the short and long term.

Wouldn't Kobe veto such trade? We're talking about all time scoring records here.
