Knicks Marbury for Diaw and Barbosa?

Wow.. if the Knicks can pull this one off, it's already a step in the right direction..

Quote:
Once Mike D'Antoni is formally named to succeed Isiah Thomas, he is expected to try to make a push for two of his favorite Suns -- forward Boris Diaw and guard Leandro Barbosa, who reportedly have fallen out of favor with Suns management. According to a person close to D'Antoni, one of his first moves would be to get the Knicks to offer Stephon Marbury and his expiring $22 million contract as a central part of the deal.
"He loves Boris and Barbosa and he didn't like Marbury when he had him," said the source. "So this is the type of move that can jump-start D'Antoni's program right off the bat. He went to New York with the notion that he will have input and help alter the roster to get his kind of players."

"D'Antoni and Marbury is going to be a bad fit," the source predicted. "He views Marbury as a shooting guard, anyway"

WOW ..... and so begins the downward spiral of the Suns. Nash, Shaq and Hill aren't getting any younger, so if this happens does this mean that rebuilding in Phoenix is right around the corner?

Not likely.

Interestingly though Nash only has two years left on his contract and the the second one is a team option.

This would basically be another version of the deal they made to get Nash and started over in the first place. It would be a fantastic deal for the Suns, because as both Diaw and Barbosa have shown, theyre both softies who lose concentration and play bad way too often for what theyre being paid and what their roles are. It sucks because Diaw used to be so fucking good. Getting them off the books for an expiring deal would be a godsend.

You'd almost think the Knicks could get more for that 22 mil expiring, though... that's a LOT off the cap. Even with Starbury being Starbury. Maybe they could squeeze out Phoenix's pick next year, which will probably be lottery if the deal goes through.

What a horrible trade. Barbosa is a top end talent who had a career year this year.

This isnt 2007. Barbosa sucked this year, especially down the stretch.

This would be a godsend for the Suns to get their contracts off the books.

well this isn't 2004, and marbury has sucked for the past half decade.

Barbosa is young, and he is that good so I have full confidence that he will improve.

Diaw and Barbosa should be a part of the Suns core going forward along with Amare. For the Suns to trade those 2 for a cancer would be dumb and should result in Kerr's head being axed.

Its not the point of Marbury being good, its a point of getting a 10 mil a year bust and 8 mil a year bust off the books and have Marburys contract expire next offseason so theyll have room to bring in a new core of players to build around Amare. The Suns era is over.

What're the Suns going to do this year with a Marbury, Shaq, and Nash on their team?
Can Nash still go a few years? Marbury+Nash=no.
Shaq is old now. CAP killers Shaq and Marbury.

I just noticed this now, and Barbosa is NOT a good player. I'm sorry, but honestly he's not a PG and he's too small and too much of a chucker for a SG. He really doesn't know how to play any semblance of defense and really he's a piece you bring in to help you win, not build around. Same said for Diaw.

And the Suns know they're era is done. But Shaq, Nash and potentially Marbury all come off the books in 2 seasons and the Suns will have a chance to rebuild relatively quickly, plus add in the fact their climate and this is a smart move for Phoenix.

So if this goes through, it'll be tanking the season no? And how will Nash and Marbury play together unless you shift Marbury into a 2 guard. Minutes?
