Quote:
Ginobili Close To $40M Extension With Spurs

Manu Ginobili is close to reaching agreement on a three-year extension with the Spurs, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The deal is expected to be worth approximately $40 million.

Ginobiliís agent, Herb Rudoy, is expected to meet with Spurs officials after the team returns from Phoenix Thursday morning.

RealGM Note: Ginobili is ranked 41st in season FIC during the 09-10 season, giving him a Reina Value of +12%, 'deserving' Samuel Dalembert's salary just over $12M. At an annual average of $13.3M, Ginobili will need to maintain his current level of play until he's 35 for the Spurs to recoup their investment. Because of the flood of teams with cap space, Ginobili could have very conceivably made more on the open market.

Manu has been playing sick without TP in the line-up and has helped SA beat sick teams. I have on him on my fantasy team and he is absolutly ripping it up

Great deal if he stays healthy. Hes still a top 5 SG in the NBA and he shows up when it counts most

If the Spurs are smart, this deal will be front loaded with the majority of the money being paid in the first 2 seasons. Assuming some of the analysts are correct in their prediction that there will be a lockout during the 2011-2012, there won't be as much risk involved in giving him this much money at his age because the Spurs might not have to pay the 2nd year of the deal.

Maybe the Spurs make a play for Bosh to play with Timmy D and a re-upped Manu.

at the start of the season, i would have said the spurs are fools to make this deal... but what Manu has done over the last month is nothing short of amazing.
he has been absolutely wrecking it. TD is the leader of course, but Manu has been their MVP this second half... and with TP injured, Manu is invaluable to that team.
Spurs are so smart to make this a short 3 year deal - seeing as how Manu is getting up there in age and has a history of injuries - only if we'd have done the same with Hedo...
great deal IMO.
i think over the last 2 months he's averaging 24 ppg a handful of assists, rebs, and steals...

way too much, out of their mind. If the deal was longer it would rival hedo`s.
Maybe my judgement is clouded on the matter because he looks so european by appearance but no way he`s worth that much at this age even if he is indeed south american

i did the calculations, Manu is averaging 25/7/3 over the last month and a half (since being inserted in the starting lineup).

by no means am i comparing the two, but those are Dwade type numbers...
and the fact that they've gone 13 and 6 during that time, i dont think you can just let a guy like that walk.
3 years is the main ingredient in this deal, and favors the spurs.

Theres generally a big difference between one player who brings it everynight on both sides of the ball who has been a clutch performer and a big playoff performer since his rookie year vs a lazy fuck who had a couple good years playing with an elite center who has had a history of mailing it in after getting paid. And also a history of not playing his hardest and best if hes not a primary player in the offence(see Hedo in SAS and his first year or two in ORL, and even earlier days in SAC)

ginobli is way better than hedo dont get me wrong but still i think thats just a horrible contract. He`s 33 soon, the spurs dont even appear to be contenders any more and were taking top dollar. Does he even hold up if asked to play 30 plus minutes again for an extended period? i wouldnt bet on it.
I would have waited cause i dont think he would have got that in open market, specially with colangelo and mauriceo with limited cap space to waiste

I don't think it's a bad contract at all. 3 yrs isn't much.... and it's not like Manu is going to shrivel up and die next season.

As he goes... so go the Spurs. Might as well keep the window open for a bit longer.

Oberto is a bust.

Scola is nice.

Manu is the white version of Michael Jordan.
