Magic Magic with the right hook and upper cut to the Mavericks

The Mavs sign Gortat to an offer sheet and begin to wait the seven days for the Magic to decide what they're going to do. The buzz leaks out that the Magic will not match but nothing official comes out. In the meantime the Magic go out and lock up Brandon Bass to a very smart, economical deal. The inking of Bass makes it seem more likely that they do not match the Gortat offer sheet. Now, fast forward to today:

Ha, ha they turn around and match the Gortat offer? Are you kidding me? I bet Cuban didn't see this one coming. Now where does he start looking? He just lost Bass and the Magic then turned around and kicked dirt in his face by matching the Gortat offer. Does Cuban counter offer with a bigger contract?

The only problem is the amount he can offer is limited by the CBA. He can only offer the MLE. He could make it a 5 year deal which would see Gortat making upwards of $8M in the back end of the deal but still, that's a lot to commit to somebody who hasn't proven much.

Varejao robbed the Cavs blind too. Weird off-season.

You can't offer a bigger contract. Once the contract is signed (and) matched that's the contract. It's set in stone.

This is pretty dumb on Orlando's part though. You're paying a guy 6 million just to back up Dwight for 12 minutes a game?

wow, idk who i should feel more sorry for: the magic for wasting a lot of money on a 12min player, or the mavs for losing bass and now gortat (then again i hate cuban so screw him).

I did not watch Orlando much so i am not sure, but do u remember how Ben Wallace became famous? By owning Webber on training while they were in Washington. Now i am not saying that Gortat is that kinda of guy, prolly isnt, but then again there arent too many players that know D12 by heart, he surely does.

I guess if the Magic win the championship, then the ends justify the means.

If they fall short of that goal, however...

that does seem kinda stupid.

If i'm Gortat, i'm questioning the decision as well. Granted, it's good to be wanted, but when you could have been a starter for a decent team, compared to playing behind the best guy at the position.... you may be annoyed.

Does this have anything to do with the trade exception Orlando got through our S+T deal? If it does then the Mavs came out badly in the deal.

I dont know, the TPE can only be used in terms of tradeing, not to sign free agents.

Right - of course. I'm just wondering where all the money came from. Maybe they were able to use the exception on the Carter trade? I don't get it. Again - obviously.
