Cool Magic leaves ESPN

Report: Magic Johnson Leaving ESPN Because Of Bill Simmons CBS Chicago

Quote:
Three weeks before the start of the NBA season, Magic Johnson abruptly announced he will be leaving ESPN’s NBA Countdown.

But why the sudden change of heart?

Deadspin cites ESPN sources who claim Johnson is less-than-thrilled with Bill Simmons’ role in the show expanding, while Michael Wilbon’s role decreases.

Deadspin’s sources report Johnson was “privately seething over the Wilbon thing and in general did not like that Simmons held all the power and influence.”

“The bottom line is they turned that show over to Simmons,” said Deadspin’s source. “That’s why Doug Collins got hired and why Wilbon was out.”

Werd.

My favourite player of all time, but not my favourite analyst of all time.

Magic was brutal as a commentator. His comments were always something like: "let the stars be the stars".

there were a couple things about magic that i didn't like

1) terrible analyst. "these guys are basketball players, they just need to play basketball."

2) all the other guys on the panel constantly sucking his hall of fame dick.

i may be in the minority here but i love jalen as an analyst. you take the good with the bad but i find him entertaining and he's more thoughtful than people give him credit for.

Magic was done sittin' next to a Celtics fan.

Whatever. I'm surprised Simmons was getting 'all the power' because he's not very good.
Bring back Walton!!!

The thing I disliked about Magic was how he acted as a recruiting arm for the Lakers. I loved how his idea of trading for Howard, backed by his own lobbying on air, came to fruition only to monumentally fail.

Simmons tweeted last night that Magic will join him on his podcast next week, and that there is no rift. I suspect Magic just doesn't want to go through another season of embarrassment.

It's amazing to me that a network comprised almost exclusively of pundits cannot put together a panel worth watching. Get LeBatard and his dad in there. And maybe Simmons' dad as well. Hell, if they could score Jalen's dad you'd really have something there.

simmons first year doing it, give him time he'll get better and more natural, I didn't like wilbon or magic, and even rose isn't that great (rose seems like a big time bull shitter, vince denied what happen between him and the smitch, saying it wasn't as physical as rose depicted it)

simmons is a start

Going to miss his analyses for sure.

"Whichever team plays better will be in a better position to win this game"
"They should try and stay out of foul trouble, it's bad"
"If their superstars play well they will have a higher chance of winning"
