Love's Double-Double Streak Broken

6 PTS/12 RBS :tombstone:

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

finstock 03-14-2011 02:30 AM

A remarkable streak, even if it was mostly achieved in garbage time. Who would've thought that the Warriors would be the team bring it to an end though?

MISAM38 03-14-2011 03:53 AM

He pretty much lost motivation after he broke the record.

Aamir 03-14-2011 04:41 AM

It's funny that he didn't get enough points instead of not getting enough rebounds.

What a crock of shit statement.

Well, I don't mean that all his stats were gained during garbage time. But his streak would've ended much, much earlier if he didn't have the benefit of playing against deep bench players for the entire fourth quarter at certain times. The T-Wolves season became dedicated to the streak -- once it reached a relatively impressive stature.

Entire 4th quarter? How often does that happen, seriously? I understand what you're saying, but he is 22yrs old and i would say that most of his double doubles were achieved by halftime or he was very close a lot of the time by halftime. At least it has always seemed that way to me. This guy has thirteen 20+ rebound games. That's insane any way you slice it for a player that age. I agree with you that his numbers are skewed due to the team he plays on, but shit 16rpg is an amazing accomplishment for his age and i would say that on a good team he'd be right around 12rpg anyway. I just don't think most of his double doubles are due to him playing garabage time.

Kevin Love would average at least 18/14 on a playoff team I think.

finstock 03-14-2011 12:22 PM

It's happened quite often this year. I mean, they are the Wolves. The entire 4th is a stretch. But Rambis, on numerous occasions, has reinserted Love into the rotation late, when the game is well out of hand, just so he could get his numbers. And why not, the streak was all Minny had going for them (great way to promote meaningless home games, no?). That being said, even compiling doubles doubles versus scrubs, especially at the rate he's done it, is still impressive. Just saying that it's open to skepticism - not that it deserves an asterisk. Most -- myself included -- will eventually forget about the futility of the streak though, and remember only the fragrance of Kevin Love.

It is very big success and even his last game stats show he didnt try to force to get double-double. His stats are garbage time stats or not and his team is Timberwolves or not that guy got my respect.

10gizzle 03-14-2011 04:33 PM

From someone who's watched/followed many of Love's games this year.

He usually had his double double by the third quarter IF NOT halftime.

So, I call BS. :reporter:

+100000000

Exactly. He certainly usually has his double doubles before "Garbage time" from what i've seen.

He might end up getting a trophy at the beginning of next year. I remember Jose got one for the best single season FT% ever. Jose's feat in my mind is better, but you never know what Stern will do about Love's accomplishment, if anything...

Better as in it was harder to accomplish or as in it was worth more.
I would say its hard to distinguish which is harder to accomplish but I would choose an automatic double double every game over and automatic FT.
just my opinion

I agree. To go up against the guys Love goes up against night in night out and fighting often times bigger players down low is a much more difficult thing to accomplish imo.

Better as in it was worth more. That's actually true though what you said. I just felt the STATISTIC is worth more for some reason. There isn't really an actual statistic called double-double in the box score or whatever(if that makes sense). Jose basically won and owns a STATISTICAL percentage over all of the greats that shot free throws in a single season. Pretty huge. But I might be neutral for this debate. lol

Dark Knight 03-14-2011 07:27 PM

Darrick Martin is an assistant coach for Minny now, isn't he? He should've gone in there and scored those 4 more points for K-Love, since he is a streak-continuing assassin. :yeah:

And the obligatory video:
