Los Angeles Royals?

If Los Angeles gets 3 teams, I'm leaving the building.

On March 3rd, the United States Patent and Trademark Office received an application by a Nevada corporation seeking exclusive rights to use the name "Los Angeles Royals."

Another application filed the same day reserves the name "Anaheim Royals." The city of Anaheim, which owns the Honda Center, has reportedly insisted that any team playing there carry the city's name.

The web domains losangelesroyals.com and anaheimroyals.com have also been registered within the past three weeks.

L.A has a population of 12 million, three teams in one city would mean 4 million/team supporters(local). after toronto, i believe the most populous city is montreal with a population of 3 million so it makes more sense to have a third team in L.A

Gurk 03-17-2011 11:07 AM

I am pretty sure half those people don't even like basketball and if they do it's because they jock ride the Lakers

fancylad 03-17-2011 12:03 PM

Further to that, Anaheim is about 30-40 miles from Los Angeles and Orange County itself has a population of 3 million, so they'd be fine. It's no different than the NHL having the Rangers, the Islanders and the Devils in the same area.

That's true, but the thing with that example is that two of those teams are pretty poorly supported.

Two of them have also recently sucked. Their attendance numbers were considerably higher when they were higher in the standings.

fancylad 03-18-2011 08:28 AM

DEvils have not sucked until right just now and have never had great attendance. Just like the nets so it goes to show New Jersey is a poor market when it comes to attendance. The Islanders have had crappy support for years and years. One would have to go back a long time to when they were considered a successful franchise from a business point of view. the Rangers have also been a pretty shitty team, but their support has been strong throughout - like the Knicks because NY proper is a good market for those sports and it always has been.

I don't think it's as much based on winning and losing as you imply.

Shouldn't San Diego get considered first since the city is more populated it is further away from LA? San Diego being 120 miles away from LA. Anaheim to LA only takes less than a half hour since it's only 25 miles away.

Great another LA team

Seems like LA gets at least 2 teams in each sport like literally.

Rome - 2,754,440? :dancing:
I'm bored to be up till late night to watch a game :sigh:
Plus Rome Gladiators sounds awesome!

Anyway, I think that they don't care about people. If 16 teams in LA were selling more tickets surely NBA would have 16 teams in LA.

MISAM38 03-20-2011 03:48 AM

It would not even matter. If the Kings came to LA, they would literrally have no fans. All of the basketball fans in LA only cheer for the Lakers. LA does not split up its fans between the Lakers and Clippers. Clippers barely have any fans compared to the Lakers.
