Default Lord Stern hints at retirement

Quote:
In announcing a new collective bargaining agreement, commissioner David Stern also predicted it would be the final NBA labor deal before he steps down.

"I would say it's fair to say this is my last. This is a 10-year deal, with a re-opener at six," he said, explaining that either side can opt out after six seasons. "I'm not planning to be here certainly for the 10 and probably not the six."

I believe the guy who does the 2nd round draft will be taking over?

But man Stern has seemed to really kill this league over the years, and today was just one of them

How old are you?

Any idea what the NBA looked like before he took over?

Stern's marketing of individuals has helped shape the "selfish" players of today.

true that.....

he did save the league...no doubting that fact, but, he also helped make it a farce to those who care about true sports.

Interesting subject.

that was because the marketable team rivalry generation came to an end. when lakers, celtics, pistons and sixers were finishing up, they had no one else to look at but jordan.

Well considering I was still a baby when MJ was in his prime. And I only got to see him with his last few years with Washington. No I wouldn't know what Stern has done to save the NBA. But from my generation it seems that this era has its glimpses of ups and downs

He's already hung on a little too long. At some point the good he's done will get outweighed by the accumulated debris. It might have happened already. I'm glad to hear that there will be some new blood soon enough. This league could use a fresh set of eyes and ears at the helm.

stern brought the law and order in this league in the messiest way possible. but he brought it anyway and without him the NBA would never reach the popular state it is now
