Default Lionel Hollins Not Going Back to the Grizzlies

Lionel Hollins Wont Return To Grizzlies - RealGM Wiretap

Do you think he`d be a good fit here? In my opinion, he did a great job in leading a team with a weak to average bench and no superstar to the conference finals after undergoing a huge roster change.

I wish he'd come here.. He's probably gunna go to Clips or Nets, places with superstars and potential superstars :/ Pretty sure any of those teams would love him there too.

When Lionel Hollins delegated the Memphis’ defensive game plan to Joerger, the Grizzlies were the league’s 24th-ranked defense. In the three seasons since, they’ve finished ninth, then seventh and now second in defensive efficiency, and they did it with Zach Randolph at power forward and an unusually small point guard in Mike Conley. It’s rare that NBA players cite their assistants by name, but Tony Allen routinely praises Joerger’s defensive blueprint as an essential ingredient in the Grizz’s success.
I'd be interested in this guy. Hollins, not so much.

Remember how wonderful those games were to watch when we had Kevin O'Neil? I think we'll be fine with Casey for another year, rather than a defensive specialist.

This is what we said about Casey when we hired him. Defensive guru behind Dallas's turnaround in their own end.

I thought Casey was a "defensive specialist"...he sure as hell isn't an offensive one since he can't figure out a way to inbound the ball, let alone draw up a successful play. Maybe he's a bad specialist. Or maybe he's just not special at all.

What does this have to do with Casey or KO? You can't just lump all defensive specialists together. They aren't all the same. But back to my point, which is Hollins isn't all he's cracked up to be. He didn't run the defense and his play calling is suspect. I'm not at all surprised Memphis let him go, and I wouldn't support bringing him here.

Hollinger and Randolph didn't share the same viewpoints with Hollins respectively is what I heard. Damn shame.

MEM needs some offensively capable wing players...

I doubt Hollinger was that big of a deal. He's like 4th or 5th in their management chain.

But Hollins is a stubborn old school coach who wasn't at all afraid to criticize his bosses. Memphis is now owned by a young tech guy who's interested in numbers and who wants to leave his imprint on the team.
I'm not surprised at all.

Tbh, I doubt they are going to get worse because of this. They have so much talent. Props to Hollins for getting through to ZBO and Tony Allen and keeping them in line. That might be the biggest challenge for the new coach. But as long as the coach can handle that, I think they'll be fine.

What was Gay's relationship with Hollins? I never really followed Memphis.

Obviously, we are all aware that no two defensive minded coaches are the same. However, Raptor history has proven we need a more well rounded coach. Maybr the guys is great, maybe not, but hes not proven as a hc. The Grizz let Hollins go after a few successful seasons and he's not worth looking at for our lowly team who's been pathetic for 5/6 years. I don't get that.

I guess this has as much to do with a Hollins not being kept on as the Grizz coach thread and posting about his assistant coach.

Again, you're lumping defensive coaches together. So you wouldn't take a chance on a potentially great coach like Thibs because his defensive acuity reminds you of KO or Casey? The team's past need not be taken into account when looking for a new coach. Here and now, who's the best candidate.
