Legitimacy of a shortened-season
So now that it's official and we won't be getting 82 games come hell or high water, now seems like the appropriate time to ask how legitimate fans feel a shortened season is; in relation to old teams, young teams, how short is too short, the historical impact and legacy of whoever wins the chip this year (assuming we have a season of some sort).

Tbh, while it's oficial, I do not think it's final.
There's still time for 82 games. If they get a deal done next week, I think they'll try to save it all.
It was obvious the games won't start until December anyway. You need a month for free agency, camps, etc.
So nothing really changed when they cancelled November officially.

If it is short, idk, the key is still the playoffs. The best team is still the best.

"Stern: 82-game season no longer possible"

How do I put in a link?

The key is still the playoffs, but there are problems there too; records determine seeding. And what if an old, but still clearly a playoff team, shits the bed early? In a 50-game season with back-to-back-to-backs, you can't recover from that. The smaller the sample size in the regular season, the less accurate regular-season records become.

Stern has said a lot of things over this long offseason. The latest: 82 games are no longer possible, and for every lost week owners will ask players to go more and more below 50%.
It's official, just as I said, I don't think it's anything final.
It does sound menacing to players though. OMG, now you REALLY lose money.

It will only be final when the math doesn't work. And right now it still seems to be possible, if they come to a deal very fast. We've known November games are canceled way before this. We've also heard that NBA is booking arenas for late April.

As for older teams, regular season is never a good reflection. Like, Boston looks strongest in December and January, and after that they just flame out every year, and may or may not regain some of it. San Antonio used to peak in mid February / March. Dallas peaked in November and then again in playoffs even without home court.

There are a lot of 'what ifs' in every season.
Btw, 99 Spurs had Duncan but it was generally an old team. A ton of back to backs, and they killed it. Not just the playoffs, they played like a 70 wins team most of that season.

I took my first shot in like a month today, lil' 14 foot fadaway...
SWISH! All net baby. Felt good too, nice release.
Basketball ain't that hard, these fools don't know what they're missing.
Let's get this party started already.
