You're saying it's not wrong to call something or someone "retarded"?

It was a woman btw.

You might but I don't. I personally don't say it but I don't get all mad if someone does. It's like people sayin "nigga" all the time. Bugs the shit out of me, but theres no much you can do about it...

No its not wrong to call something retarded if it is in fact retarded. That question was retarded, and Lebron just said it to Wade. Its not like he said it to the reporter or anyone watching the interview, he said it to his teammate. Again people blowing something simple out of proportion.

i'm at work so i didn't actually see the video.

no, i didn't say that. but i do think its ok to say something is retarded but its wrong to say someone is retarded. by calling a person retarded you have the intent of being offensive. whereas people say stupid shit all the time so i see nothing wrong with lebron calling a question he felt was retarded.

Just for clarity can you define "retarded" for me?

Something that is stupid, silly, goofy, dumb, a waste of time.

Over time words mean multiple things, and its 100% believable LB was referring to this, and not an actual mentally handicapped person. Alot of people use 'retarded' this way, Lebron is no exception because he is human.

Everyone is so god damn politically correct around here it's insane.. Damn multiculturalism has everyone living on the edge, say what you mean, mean what you say. bam.

Chiggmo 05-09-2011 06:43 PM

Depends on context really, and that wasn't that bad, givin the right situation I'd hate him for it.

Claudius 05-09-2011 06:49 PM

I'm quite amazed by some of the responses here.

Perhaps it's immaturity. Perhaps, it's not caring. But I truly hate the word.

Why not just say: dumb? stupid? silly?

Hell, why resort to even saying it's one of those and just answer the question? Just, simply amazing.

'trane 05-09-2011 06:57 PM

finally a perfect opportunity for a facepalm.

so what would you like to say about my sister and anyone like her? will you stop short of being mean with what you say? You say it's insane. I say you seem to be calling out for thoughtlessness.

Do you mean to say that the question is mentally handicapped?

If you mean that the question is dumb or stupid, you can say that without the additional connotations that the word retarded carries.

It's not about being politically correct; it's about being precise in your language. Why make "retarded" and "stupid" synonymous? Why offend unnecessarily? Do people get a kick out of being an ass so they can proclaim how they're not politically correct?

R-word | Spread the Word to End the Word

Alex 05-09-2011 08:29 PM

It's just ignorance. It comes with his "tough guy" attitude.

P.S. I've gotten in trouble for this word already
P.P.S. I have a 12 year old autistic sister

Snooch 05-09-2011 10:02 PM

its just a word.

its the conotation(sp) that is mean and or malicious

LX 05-09-2011 10:17 PM

I think Colbert nailed it when he said that using the R-word is so gay. It gets used a lot as a common colloquialism, so people don't really consider the meaning or how much mean-spiritedness lies behind it's original use as an insult. Attempts to raise an awareness of that shouldn't be thought of as forms of political correctness.

LeBron James says he's sorry for using the word "retarded" in a postgame news conference.

The Miami Heat star muttered the word after Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals as he and Dwyane Wade listened to a question about Wade's takedown of Boston guard Rajon Rondo.

James had his hand covering his mouth when he said "that's retarded" as a reporter asked Wade whether the play that dislocated Rondo's elbow was dirty.

After Game 4 on Monday night, James opened his postgame comments by apologizing for using "the R-word."
