Default League may try and sqeeze in full schedule starting Dec 1?

Quote:
Marc Stein writes that the NBA league office may be planning to play a full slate of games even if the start of the season is delayed one month.

"[b]e advised that strong rumblings continue to be conveyed to ESPN.com about the league preparing a secret schedule that starts Dec. 1 and still manages to pump out 82 games," Stein wrote.*

And so the nonsense of the lockout gets further compounded by a schedule where fans can be guaranteed of not seeing teams at their best just about every time they buy a ticket. It would almost be worth it just for the fact that KG would completely lose his mind. My knees!

would be such a disaster for older teams. Theirs no way they compound the season like that definitely just more lockout posturing.

They could fit in 70 games but 82 would be nuts!

They'd probably extend the season into the summer and slightly delay the start of the next season to compensate.

But if they try to fit 82 between December and April, then yes they are crazy.

I hate that idea. 82 games is already too much even for a 'normal' season. It would kill the product.
Not to mention, unless prices go down, it would hurt the real value of NBA web pass, season tickets and the like. At least for me, not like I'll watch the games more often on the league pass.

That would make sense.
But then it would really screw up Olympic Committee and FIBA considering that pre-Olympic stuff starts in early July. And training cycle for a number of teams starts in June.
Idk if NBA cares about it. They've been on friendly terms with FIBA / IOC lately. Either way, it sucks for international fans.

Btw, I wonder if this 'squeeze' plan makes financial sense.
I suppose depends on the TV deals. Is ESPN etc obliged to squeeze in the same amount of games in that scenario, or can they pay less?
Also, stadium revenues per game would almost certainly go down.
The one clear upside is that teams don't have to refund season tickets.

that means the Celtics and Spurs will be resting their starters for half of the games so they can rest for the playoffs

They don't need 82 games, but they do need the new contract to reflect the loss in revenue.

So what if the NBA hands out a revised schedule? Don't mean the guys are gonna play it.
