Default LBJ to the Clips this Summer?

I thought that this was pretty interesting.

Quote:
After pawning off Marcus Camby for an expiring contract and $3 million in cash and ridding themselves of Sebastian Telfair's and Al Thornton's contracts, the Clippers are now far enough under the cap this summer to target a big-name free agent.

They'll have Baron Davis at the point, Eric Gordon at shooting guard, Blake Griffin at the 4, Chris Kaman at the 5 ... all they need is a small forward.

LeBron James, anyone?

ESPN's Chad Ford tweeted this last night: "I think this means Clips are making a serious run at LeBron. They now have cap space to make it happen. What if Danny Ferry just made the deal that gives the Clips enough room to steal LeBron?"

Salary-cap expert Larry Coon tweets this: "They'll be able to tell LBJ 'pick your coach.'"

T.J. Simers of the L.A. Times chimes in today as well: "It will be up to LeBron to free himself this summer, and if he does, given the NBA's salary restrictions, as of today there are probably only four [or] five teams in the position to give James the maximum amount of money. The Clippers are one of them, and shockingly can make a legitimate case to LeBron that if he wants to win a championship, the Clippers afford him the best opportunity."

Obviously, just because the Clips have the opportunity to sign LeBron doesn't mean it's going to happen. This is the Clippers, after all.

But they're a team that can certainly present a good case to him on why he should join their team come this summer.
It's pure speculation of course (which I bitch about when it happens to Bosh) but I thought that this was an interesting scenario that hasn't been mentioned much. I would think that LBJ would prefer to stay in the East but he may also want to head to LA to start up a real rivalry with Kobe...and also to try to the Clippers curse to rest.

IMO, after the Cavs with the title this year, it may be a little more difficult for LBJ to leave Cleveland.

if this happened, lebron would tear apart his knee in the first game of the preseason.

Oddly enough, not that far fetched. The Clippers would finally be giving the Lakers team some competition. Can you imagin Lebron vs Kobe in LA. The NBA would blow a load over this.

At the same time i still think Lebron stays put unlitimately.

maybe they should let pick LeBron the new franchise name as well for good luck, besides the coach and all that.

It won't happen because it's the Clippers. Remeber a few years back when the Clips cleared all that cap space to make a run at Kobe just to have him spurn them?

And no one wants to play little brother to the Lakers. I will say this though: If Lebron landed with the Clips in the summer and everyone manages to stay relatively healthy next season, the Clips would have to be considered a favourite in the West.

That's a scary good team with LeBron, scary good. But it's the Clips, and whether or not that team gets as good or better than LAL is irrelevant, I don't see LeBron down for he and his team to play second fiddle to Kobe and the Lakeshow. No matter how many championships the Clippers get, the Lakers will be the golden child in LA. Yankees over the Mets, Cubs over the Sox. Just how it works.

People are clearly underestimating the Lebron effect. He immediately makes them the presumptive favourite for the title, would bring in a top flight coach essentially of his choosing and takes them out of black sheep territory in the Staples Center and into media hype-machine rivals with the Lakers.

Of course it's never going to happen, but in all honesty it would be the best move for Lebron if he was interested in winning the next 4-6 titles.

I think he should do it.

Him going to LA would be HUGE for him and the buzz that it would create in the sports world would be unparallelled.

And the Clips would actually have GOOD players around him too!

I'd LOVE to see it.... but I can't imagine it happening.

not impossible he can get that done staying put either

as aggressive as they're trading I'm sure they'll keep at it.
Money doesn't seem to be the problem.

Clippers have a nice core but so do Chicago, NJ and Kings, especially considering their age.

Here is a interesting thought...

Even if they dont get LBJ...

What if they attract WADE? With all this "Climate" talk regarding Chris Bosh in Toronto and not Miami...

LA has amazing weather, not to mention bigger market then MIAMI... plus the clips core going forward looks a HECK OF ALOT better then the Heat...

Or even Joe Johnson in a Clips Jersey..?

I really want to start this thread on a Miami Heat board for fun...lol

Dark Knight / ArmChairGM Where you at?
