Lakers Want Paul and Howard

Quote:

It is no secret that the Los Angeles Lakers would like to trade for Dwight Howard or Chris Paul, but sources with knowledge of the situation say the Lakers actually have something greater in mind: acquiring both players.

Hoping to pull off a pair of blockbuster moves that would rock the NBA, the Lakers are willing to trade anyone on their roster outside of Kobe Bryant to bring Howard and Paul to Los Angeles, two sources said.

Whether the Lakers are able to make it happen remains to be seen, but with stars Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom on the roster, they have the talent and the financial capacity to make the trades work.

Paul
Kobe
Artest
?
Howard

I would think Gasol + Odom would have to go along with brown and others. This won't happen.

Whats the point of getting Chris Paul for Lakers? Take ball away from Kobe? Because Paul REALLY likes to have the ball.
When US team played it was tradition that he kept the ball in the end of the game dribbling the time out :)

Kobe is not LeBron. He spent most of his career in triangle. He had the ball in his hands like 25-30% of the time during most of the game.
I just don't how they figure out the final possessions. They both are used to create those clutch shots. But that's a nice problem to have.
And everything before the crunch time should be pretty smooth.
Pau Gasol is creating a lot of offense for the Lakers right now, same with Odom and to some extent Fisher / Artest. Give their job to Chris Paul, and Paul will have his hands full.
Also, Mike Brown spent years making point guards fit next to LeBron. It never was perfect but generally it was ok when those points could shoot. Kobe and CP3 would be much easier for Brown to figure out.

Anyway, hate the Lakers. Love the ambition.

The beginning of the season is awesome though. Tyson Chandler asks for ~90 mil over 4 years. Knicks plan to add CP3 or Dwight. And Lakers plan to add them both.
The system is fixed! Glad we did this lockout for so long.

MrClutch 12-06-2011 09:55 AM

I hope this doesnt happen

fancylad 12-06-2011 10:06 AM

if it's via trade, it would be interesting to see them pull it off. Obviously it wouldn't be very good for the league, but doing it through trades seems a lot more proper than the Miami Heat approach.

I dunno guys... as ridiculous as the MLB may seem at times look at the parity there compared to the NBA....

1990 - Detroit Pistons
1991 - Chicago Bulls
1992 - Chicago Bulls
1993 - Chicago Bulls

2006 - Miami Heat
2007 - S.A. Spurs
2008 - Boston Celtics
2009 - L.A. Lakers
2010 - L.A. Lakers
2011 - Dallas Mavericks

9 different champions in the last 30 years.

MLB Champs from 1981-2011:

1981 - L.A. Dodgers
1982 - St. Louis Cardinals
1983 - Baltimore Orioles
1984 - Detroit Tigers
1985 - Kansas City Royals
1986 - N.Y. Mets
1987 - Minnesota Twins
1988 - L.A. Dodgers
1989 - Oakland Athletics
1990 - Cincinnati Reds

1997 - Florida Marlins
1998 - N.Y. Yankees
1999 - N.Y. Yankees
2000 - N.Y. Yankees
2001 - Arizona Diamondbacks
2002 - Anaheim Angels
2003 - Florida Marlins
2004 - Boston Red Sox
2005 - Chicago White Sox
2006 - St. Louis Cardinals
2007 - Boston Red Sox
2008 - Philadelphia Phillies
2009 - N.Y. Yankees
2010 - S.F. Giants
2011 - St. Louis Cardinals

20 different champs in the last 30 years.

In spite of the ridiculousness of the MLB team salaries there's actually been some really good competition when it's come down to the World Series. Shit, a couple of times you had SEVEN years in a row where you had a different champ. (1981-1987, 2000-2006, 2005-2011)

Disagree. There was nothing terribly improper about free agents deciding to play together. Recruiting beforehand isn't supposed to happen, but it does everywhere all the time, not only In Miami.

A team like the Lakers makes these sorts of trades as a means of bypassing the free agent process, and that just constructs a direct pipeline of the top talent to them, and hurts other teams that can only hope to land lesser talent in a smaller FA market, by clearing up capspace, which in itself often leads to more talent being sucked up by a few teams. But the worst aspect about this particular deal would be the horrible conflict of interest involving a player that is under contract to a team that is owned by the league. Why should LA benefit exclusively from a situation where all teams are helping to keep NOH afloat? Let Paul become a free agent. Otherwise it is going to reek of a league with two tiers in spite of all the talk by owners over the last 2 years.

Hmm interesting, whta would they give to trade for Paul and Howard though?
Fisher, Artest, Odom, Bynum, Gasol, Brown, Blake

Are their only positive trade assets.

Exactly - it would mean NOH taking a bath.

If I were ORL I would laugh in L.A.'s face if they offered anything less than Gasol AND Odom/Bynum for D12.

That doesn't leave much left to acquire CP3.

Kobe? Lol

GrannyFro 12-06-2011 02:19 PM

the good thing is kobe's knee's are not going to be able to handle the wear and tear of the upcoming schedule so a blowout is inevitable. That might help even thing out.

to add, chris pauls a fatass! hasn't been that allstar since he had knee surgury or if he has i haven't noticed.
