Lakers Lakers, Nets, Rockets Trade

Quote:
The New jersey Nets have traded Terrence Williams to the Houston Rockets in a three-way deal that will land them Los Angeles Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic and a pair of first-round draft picks, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

The trade, which has been agreed upon in principle, will also send Nets veteran power forward Joe Smith to the Lakers, while New jersey will receive Los Angeles' 2011 first-round pick and Houston's 2012 lottery-protected first rounder, sources said.

I guess NJ got tired of T-Will's attitude problems. Houston is getting a very nice young piece to add to their core.

Terrence Williams should mature with the presence of so many veterans. I'm not sure why the Lakers would give up Vujajic for Smith.

Ratliff is taking time to recuperate, and Bynum is Bynum. I guess they just want someone to give some minutes of rest to Gasol. Smith is kinda a weird choice if you ask me. I didnt think he had much game left. Although knowing how players that look like scrubs in other teams, look like good role players in the lakers, it may work.

BIG PICTURE... its all done to land MELO ... they will give 2 first round picks!!!

Quote:
Nets Close To Acquiring Two First Round Picks

The Nets are close to acquiring multiple first round picks that will be used in a potential trade for Carmelo Anthony, two people familiar with the situation told CBSSports.com.

New jersey has agreed in principle to a three-team trade where the Nets receive a first round pick from the Rockets and another first round pick from the Lakers.

Houston would acquire Terrence Williams, while Joe Smith would be sent to the Lakers and Sasha Vujacic would go to the Nets.

The deal can't be finalized until Wednesday when Smith becomes trade-eligible.

New jersey already owns Golden State's 2012 first rounder, which would also be included in a trade for Anthony along with the two picks acquired in this trade and one of their own over the next two seasons.

If a trade with the Nuggets can be hammered out, Derrick Favors and Troy Murphy would go to Denver along with draft picks.

The Nets have received assurances from several people from Anthony's camp that he would sign an extension with the club.
The framework of the three-team trade came together on Tuesday, just two days after word leaked that Anthony would only sign an extension with New York.

So, according to the article Ex posted, the Nets are offering the Nuggets 4 picks, Derrick Favours, and Troy Murphy's expiring deal. It's a decent package, especially if the Golden State pick is not lottery protected.

Thanks Mb66....er...I mean, Windex.

I just said "offering"

It's up to Denver to decide to take it, and Carmelo to officially promise to re-sign.

Yeah, I could see the Nets becoming the 6th seed. It's possible that Melo would have that impact. Chicago and Atlanta would still likely be better. I could see Devin Harris playing better once he has Melo to attract attention and open things up for him the way VC did a couple of years ago. With a solid trio of Melo, Lopez and Harris, shooters like Morrow and Outlaw might start getting better quality looks from 3. To use the old sports cliche, it will depend on chemistry and how the coaching staff incorporates him.

Also, going forward, the Nets will still have a bit of financial flexibility next year, assuming a new CBA doesn't drastically change the cap structure. Melo will make around $18 mill, but they could still end up under the cap, since other Net players are earning fairly modest amounts.

 the Nuggest are much better then the nets. If he gets signed anywhere it would only make sense to go to new york. At least he would have a chance.

In the short term, I agree. However, Chauncy is getting older. Nene might be retiring soon. Kenyon is expiring and might not be back, even if he hasn't lost his game. So, from a longer term perspective, there are things to consider.

New York won't have the money to sign him as a UFA, so he needs to go their via a trade to get his max money. The Knicks simply don't have the pieces to match the supposed offer coming from the Nets, at least not without depleting their roster.

The Nets with Melo would be scary. If indeed they only have to give up Favors and Murphy and some picks for Melo, then their lineup would be:

Harris
Morrow
Melo
?
Lopez

All thats missing is a PF and they are legit playoff contenders.

Man, I was hoping he would go to the Knicks or Bulls. Much more fun to watch with the players on those teams.
