Lakers Lakers fuming over Paul trade

Ahhh, that's a shame!

Quote:
The Lakers were privately fuming Wednesday, according to a person with knowledge of their front office, when Paul, the New Orleans point guard, ended up in Los Angeles six days after the NBA vetoed the Lakers' trade for him.

Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak declined to comment through a spokesman but earlier this week said the NBA's blockade was "completely unexpected."

"We did the best we can to express our displeasure," Kupchak said Monday.

I would be mad too if a poor team didn't give up their star player to me for horseshit.

The Lakers were offering Gasol and Odom.... really, that's a pretty good give in basketball terms.

Paul is awesome, but he's also had injury issues....

they actually have a valid argument. what makes their trade get axed, but the Clips trade OK?

there's a conflict of interest, for sure, with the league being in charge of a team. But the clippers deal is better so it was the right thing to do? like a normal team waiting for the best offer.

much, much better offer for a rebuilding team in need of being sold. the lakers' offer was garbage.

Yep. Way too much salary coming back in the Lakers trade - the Hornets would, in all likelihood, actually have been over the tax threshold (!) if they had accepted that deal.

The Clips deal is ten times better for a team that is looking for financial flexibility and future prospects - two critical things for a successful sale.

i'm not talking about the actual trade, thats another thing... my issue is the fact that the trade was agreed upon, and then reversed after the league and the owners made a big stink about it.
thats kind of unfair.

ahhh yes. In our world, where the peons play. But not in David Stern's alternate reality. Never has their been a power tripper like Stern.

I'd probably care more about this if it wasn't the Lakers who were whining.

Whoa - every deal gets agreed upon by the GMs, then presented to their respective owners. MJ canceled a deal on us last summer. How is this different? In each case, the owner of one team decided they didn't like the deal, and told the GM to try to come up with a different option.

While there was certainly outcry from come owners about the deal, there is no way to know that is what drove Stern to make that decision. There haven't even been any confirmed reports about when the decision was made relative to when the complaints were received. And those few tidbits out there suggest that the decision was indeed made first. And considering that the Hornets did eventually get a much better deal, and ownership had good "basketball reasons" to veto that trade, even if the complaints were received first I doubt it changed the outcome at all.
