They'll overpay on a 1yr deal. Then they'll go after who they really want. This is why the escalated luxury tax shouldn't take two years to get going. At least we don't see ridiculous 10-15yr contracts in the NBA like in other leagues. If that ever happens, the NBA's fucked!

that's true, but it does seem a little discouraging that the same problems seem to exist in that fringe players are still being overpaid (even if it's for a smaller timeframe) and superstar players are still bullying their way out of towns. with the exception of some subtle differences the new NBA seems a lot like the old NBA and that's not a good thing.

I don't mind teams paying guys a little more as long as the deals are 1 or 2 years.
Yeah $9M is a bit steep for a guy like Hump but you have to figure that he's going to remain motivated to play and if he's not.... well, you cut his ass at the end of the season or trade him at the deadline. |

Now see, that's a pre-divorce contract. If he was still hitched, with Kim sitting courtside, it creates a helluva distraction for opposing teams. Therefore, it'd be a strategic investment, not so much for talent.
