Kobe: Nuggets fans are idiots for booing 'Melo

Quote:

Kobe Bryant is clarifying his remarks that Denver Nuggets fans are "stupid" for booing Carmelo Anthony over his trade stance.

After shootaround on Friday, Bryant was asked again about Anthony getting roundly booed following his 35-point performance against Oklahoma City 48 hours earlier.

"I said they were idiots for booing," Bryant recounted.

Reminded that a day earlier he had characterized those frustrated fans as "stupid" for booing their own superstar, Bryant replied, "Stupid and idiots are synonymous."

Idiots might be harsher.

"I don't know," Bryant said. "They're close. They're cousins."

Either way, the Los Angeles Lakers star who regularly gets booed at the Pepsi Center himself, contends Anthony, his teammate on the 2008 Olympic gold medal team, doesn't deserve similar treatment from his home crowd.

Bryant suggested that if Anthony were at all waffling about his desire for a trade, the Nuggets fans' hostile treatment might just push him out of Denver.

Anthony has been the subject of trade talk since refusing to sign a three-year, $65 million extension last summer. Two potential blockbuster trades with the New Jersey Nets have fallen apart.

Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri said after the Nets halted negotiations on their latest megadeal Wednesday that he was still talking to several teams about his All-Star forward.

Bryant's teammate, Ron Artest, had a different take on Anthony's treatment from Nuggets fans.

Artest, who famously declared upon his arrival in Los Angeles that fans should throw tomatoes at him if the Lakers didn't repeat as champions, suggested Anthony should feel fortunate that fans are only hurtling insults his way.

"That's nothing," Artest said. "He should be happy he got booed."

Anthony missed the Nuggets' shootaround Friday morning because of what coach George Karl called a personal matter, but he was in the starting lineup against the Lakers.

Why wouldn't you boo someone who wants to leave your team for no apparent reason. The fact that he wants to contend for a championship is not an excuse, since the teams he will go to are clearly not going to be considerably better than the nuggets. If he decides to stay, then the nuggets have the confidence to attract other free agents.

There is no more loyalty from the players, so why should there be loyalty to him from the fans?

I don't think the Nuggets would be better than the Knicks. Felton-Melo-Amare I think would be better than Melo-Smith-Billups-Nene. Also, I don't think Nuggets have enough money to spend in the offseason nor do they have any attractive pieces to trade outside of Lawson(Which they want to keep propably) and Smith(Maybe nobody would want). Melo is better off going to NY, where he was born and so he could get a fresh start with an awsome 2nd option in Amare. Melo isn't gunna accomplish anything in Denver.

IMO the difference isn't drastic.

My problem isn't that he wants to leave... But the fact that Kobe is saying the fans are stupid for booing him. If Melo wants to leave denver, he doesn't respect the fans or the team. So why should the fans respect him?

An Kobe is already biased when he is commenting about denver fans...

It's not that he disrespects the fans, it's the organization and the team. Either that or he wants to play in his favourite city. He's done pretty much all you can do to act professional towards this matter. It's mostly the management and these "league sources" that keep getting the word out about possible deals and throwing out names. Melo is saying almost all the right things so far. I'm sure he loves the fans and the city, but the way his team is going, the Nuggets aren't gunna be anything special, and he prefers to be in his hometown city where he can play along one of the best big man in the league. It would look worse if he still had a couple more years left on his contract, but this is his contract year and he has a right to go to another team and if he gets traded before the deadline, the Nuggets can get something back in return for him.

^ Right on sir. It's Denver's front office that are mistreating the situation. They scared away the Nets. The fans are pissed off at the incompetent front office, so they direct their hatred towards Melo. Very typical of the boss-worker relationship. The worker is taking the fall on the sword as a result of the bosses' negligence.
