not a dumb thread. very valid. the sad thing is that there are way too many people who look up to kobe for him to be spewing such a bullshit comment.

ya, it's all great to avoid charges when you are arguably the most talented player the game has ever seen.... but it doesn't change the fact that, as SJ correctly pointed out, it is a very vital element of team defence. very douche-y of kobe.

Funny thing is...... if Lebron made this same comment he'd get LAMBASTED without remorse.

Double-standards.. I like 'em.

In addition:

I liken the ability to fool the refs and draw a charge to a dunk. It sure is a momentum swinger, can change the course of a game, etc., but it sure isn't a barometer of your defensive abilities. Good to have someone who can fool a ref by flopping and taking a charge, just like it is good to have a player who can throw it down with ease.

Hell, Derek Fisher, Steve Nash, Kyle Korver, etc. all have a reputation of being solid at drawing the charge. I will thank the stars tonight knowing that SJ is not a coach in this league, for he'd play any of these individuals over the Garnetts, Duncans, Kidds, Bryants, of this league because of their "willingness to sacrifice their bodies" lol.

I'm not saying taking a charge is totally useless, but I just think people like SJ are just grabbing at straws now just to downplay the accomplishments of one of the greatest players to ever play our game. At the end of the day, give me a player who is able to shut down the player they are guarding rather than someone who is able to flop to the ground once a game.

Questioning his will to win? LOL
LOL agreed!

Kobe could say "I'm not going to dunk anymore" & no one should argue.

Always two schools of thought... "Pro-Kobe" and "Anti-Kobe".

"i don't take charges"
"i'm not going to dunk anymore"
"i'm just gonna keep going even if she says no"

just because it works out for kobe, doesn't mean it's good advice.

Pro-hustle, anti-lazy

this has little to do with Kobe.

To you, maybe. To others, it does.

And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't like the guy anyway.

yeah, not so much. a veteran of this board would have tried to make those perfectly valid points without the insults.

The talk about flopping was more bothersome to me. Does Kobe not often initiate contact on offense and sell the need for a call?

Flopping...that whole issue is sadly out of control LX, with the masses gaining momentum. It's sad.

Players should be rewarded for shutting ineffective offensive players down, its sad. Guys like Kobe, Jordan or lebrom clear out at will always, but are allowed.

meh.
