Not taking charges really isn't a big deal at all. This is just taking it way out of proportion by saying he doesn't care about winning.

Kobe cares about winning.... there's no disputing that. Thought it was a stupid comment to make though. If taking a charge in a critical moment is going to win your team the game you take the damn charge.... without hesitation.

He had an opportunity to take a charge in the 4th quarter last night, and instead fouled Harden. Instead of OKC continuing to struggle they saw two easy points, and they turned out to be two very important points.

Everytime I read something about this guy like this I am dumbfounded. Which is worse is the generaton of lazy, and unknowledgeable ballers that dickheads like this in the last 15 years have created.

There are poeple, MOST actually, on this thread that don't think taking a charge is important. WHAT THE FUCK. I would bench a guy if I thought he was avoinding it. Kobe freaked me out even more when he tried to say NOT taking it was somehow "harder" and more stand up. BRUTAL.. His whole statement is a sad contradiction, and a very sad example of where this game is headed.

LX pretty much sealed this thread with one sentence, aand he a trillion times right.

Drawing a charge is a huge part of defence. MASSIVE. It stops teams from gaining momentum taking the ball to the glass. It creatres stops, and it creates turnovers. These are what wins games. Fact is, the people that don't ever take them are cowards, and the people that don't respect the call in pick up games are just weak ass chumps that have no game. Hell good players could foul a guy out on the playgound in 7 possesions, they'd get um on offence then get him on defence when they were out of control and trying to press the issue. Its a mental game that you need if you wanna be anything close to being considered a good player. You dont draw charges, you dont respect the call...you're a chump, straight up, your team will lose more than win.

Guys come up on this board talking how the "love the game", "respect the game"....BS you do, you don't even care enough to understand the game. Wanna talk greatest of all time. Don't, you aren't qualified to do so, top 50??? nope..... sit that one out too if you're gonna sit here and tell me with a straight face that taking charges is not part of the game. Clearly you aint never played an honest lick of defence in your life.

Kobe is a disgrace to the guys that paved the way for him...saying Jordan didn't take charges..muhahah is he on crack?

Agree with much of the above, except taking charges in pick up ball is sketchy. Has to be pretty blatant to get one called.

Only because guys are so weak. I know if I get caught, I'd admit it. Its a natural human tendency to take the hard things away from life, take the easy path, its a true sign of character if you go out of your way to do things properly with, or without supervision.

Funny how the rules are the first thing to go out the window when there isn't a ref or a coach. Thats SO weak.

Oddly, When guys play pick up Hockey, they still call, and respect the call of an offside. I guess its the cultur of the sport?

Anyhow.... Kobe is blowing my mind with this one.

There are no offensive fouls in pick up basketball - it doesn't happen. I've probably played pick-up basketball for atleast one-one.five years of my life and I've witnessed maybe 10-20 offensive foul calls.

They've always been called by newbs - and it's always an eye-roller for vets.

If it's a competitive run - the call won't be respected.

True. The only time you might see an offensive foul is if a guy swings his elbows and clocks you in the face. Otherwise a charge is either a play on or, at best, check the ball from the outside (but offense keeps the ball). Trying to call an offensive charge in a pickup game is like trying to call 3 seconds in the key, ain't gonna go over well with the natives.

Yeah, I've never played a pickup game where people keep track of individual fouls. It's hard enough for everyone to agree on the score.

Seconded. If it's a blatant charge where you've wiped a guy out then it gets called. But if you're sliding in to flop to the ground, you're probably not playing next game.

Please tell me more. Your comments are worth so much more than Kobe Bryant, who has been named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team more than anyone else who has ever played the game lol.

Carry on enlightening the board, in your condescending manner, with your understanding on how to play defense. Any up and coming basketball player has so much more to learn from you than from Kobe Bryant.

1) Not exactly true.... KG and Jordan have been 1st-team all-defense 9x as well.

2) You know full-well that Kobe's been coasting on that rep for the past 4-5 seasons. He hasn't been 1st team all-defense for a while (although he's still pretty good when he wants to be). TBH, the fact that he has as many 1st team all-Ds as Jordan and KG is kind of crazy if you ask me.

Tell me why I'm wrong.

Tell me that it's ok to admit not playing defence so that you don't get hurt.

Ya, you know, until you have something to bring to the table little one, go back to the wading pool ok, this is big boy talk.
