Default Kobe Better than LBJ?

Good piece, regardless of where you stand on the issue. Warning: Kobe-biased.

And so, as No. 24 laces them up for what could be a decisive Game 6 against the Suns in Phoenix on Saturday night, this would be a good time to remind everyone that, in many quarters, Bryant is now considered only the second-best player in the NBA.

Not in my book. Not yet. And probably not even next year, no matter where LeBron is playing.

The question of whether The King had surpassed The Kobester began to be asked quietly a couple seasons ago. Bryant was still the pick of most, but he engenders such enmity that many fans and journalists just couldn't wait until the NBA became LeBron's League. My own reading is that, by last season, a majority would've picked LeBron over Kobe, and after the Cleveland forward grabbed his second straight MVP award this season, that majority could be described as overwhelming.

Let me repeat: I was not one of them.

I'd take Kobe over Lebron right now if I wanted to win a championship. The guy is unbelievably clutch. At the same time, take Kobe off the Lakers and replace him with LBJ and they probably still win a championship this season. Still though....Kobe>Lebron

Yep.

It ain't a pick on potential, it's about right now. And right now, Bryant is on top of the world, and Lebron is leading the brand new "immaturity club", he and Wade, along with chris Bosh and Joe Johnson.

You see a big difference in what makes greatness.

Kobe works his ass off and wills whatever team he has to win.

These guys don't have the character to do it alone (Well Wade seems to) so the lobby to try to go stack a team somewhere so it can be easy.

I'm sure they will all learn on their own. Until then, they are not at Kobe's level.

I hate Bryant.

When I watch the Cavs, Lebron - IMO - still has a tendency to disappear at times, which is saying a lot because the rest of his team sucks.

I'm not a Kobe fan boy and I absolutely HATE the Lakers, but IMO, KOBE IS better than Jordan was. Probably because I'm a younger cat, but nonetheless I firmly believe this. So that puts Kobe right behind Detlef Schrempf for G.O.A.T.

Well considering Kobe is 31 and Lebron is only 25, and Kobe has been in the league for 13 seasons and Lebron only for 7, it makes sense that the more mature Kobe should the better of the two.

+1

i remember somebody started a poll here between these 2 guys and 90% favoured LeBrick. he is good, in his own right. i just think he's overhyped. there wasn't any hype when Kobe was drafted in this league yet there was a lot of buzz how he became the #2 draft straight out of high school. not to mention this guy is CLASSY. remember when his team lost to ORL? didn't even bother to congratulate the opposing team or put on a statement.

ps: Kobe's has a load of experience too.

Lebrons overall game is better but you still have to take Kobe in the big game until dethroned.

Kobe will always be better, just cuz he gets it done in the playoffs. Lebron may have better stats but kobe has the killer instinct that is damn scary.

I agree. Lebron not only has the offensive game, but has the defensive game aswell, which Kobe seems to lack at times. But yes, with the game on the line, Kobe is getting the ball.

Also, it figures that this thread would be put up the day after Kobe single-handedly eliminated the Suns from the playoffs. I bet that if this same question was asked a few years ago after Lebron went off against Detroit a fews years back, everyone would be saying Lebron.

Lebron is a better passer, but his rebounds and points are largely the result of sheer size advantage.

Kobe is a far more skilled player, less reliant on brute force, whereas Lebron is more of a bull-moose, head down to the rim drawing massive contact.

I think u cant compare LBJ with Kobe8, coz they've such a different style of play.

James can play the 3 and 4, can post up vs bigger players and drives so much to the rim. Kobe is more the 3-Point or the midrange Shooter. Yes, hes driving to the rim too, but hes playin with more...intelligence.

James just uses his body to crash through the D and his style of play isnt that *smart*.

ATM Kobes the better player, coz he can LEAD a team through hard and difficult games. James....cant.

LeBron had such a strong supporting cast, the best since he came to the NBA and he did...nothing.
But hes still 25 and has so much upside. Hes a triple double monster. He can pass, rebound and score...but he lacks the speacial type of leading qualities.

Kobe has better offensive arsenal and better overall defense. Lebron ain't half the defender Kobe is. Only thing he has on him is chase down blocks.

Plus Kobe plays with an injured knee and broken finger and doesn't choke like classic Lebron.

Lebrons great at statpadding. Kobe's great at winning championships.

Kobe wins by a mile.
