Knicks Knicks' Walsh ready for boos after first pick

Tough break for this guy

You'd think, in most scenarios, a #6 pick is usually a very good player.

Taking Danilo Gallinari, a 19-year-old Italian forward, may give skeptical fans Frédéric Weis flashbacks. Drafting Arizona's Jerryd Bayless, who may or may not be a point guard, would only expand the Knicks' corps of not-quite-point guards. Ditto for U.C.L.A.'s Russell Westbrook and Indiana's Eric Gordon.

"The first year I got unanimously booed - it was the whole arena - for taking Chuck Person, who became rookie of the year," Walsh said. "So that made me feel good. The second year was Reggie Miller, and I realized that there were some cheers. But four-fifths of the arena booed."

He concluded, "You're going to get booed no matter what."

Their reaction is always legendary. Although I will miss the Fi-re Is-iah chants and Fi-re Lay-den chants. No one left to fire.
