Knicks Knicks interested in McGrady?

Quote:
There’s chatter in New York that the Knicks are interested in the chronically injured McGrady: “Multiple sources say the Knicks - who are owned by Cablevision, which also owns Newsday - have tried since the summer to engage the Rockets in trade talks for McGrady but have been unsuccessful. However, an opportunity could present itself after the latest episode - a reported spat with Adelman about McGrady’s return schedule - that reportedly even has infuriated Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, who used to be one of McGrady’s staunchest supporters. What would it take? The Rockets would love to get a high-end young player for McGrady and also save some money, which suggests they also would look for an expiring contract or two. It will take more than one to make up McGrady’s league-high $23.2-million salary this season.”

Lee, Chandler, Galinari??

My guess is Lee's expiring for starters and after that maybe Nate since they nearly didn't bring him back this summer anyway.

the knicks will do everything in their power to have the most money in the offseason, so this move looks to be a smart one if you ask me. they're what? 2-9 or something... they have zero chance in hell to do anything productive this year, so why not tank it, get a high draft pick and get a shit load of expiring contracts this season? and seeing how tmac's 25 million is expiring, why not grab him?
when the off season is here and the knicks have like 40 million to spend, and a top 3 draft pick, no one will be able to say a word. this move makes perfect sense.

In the ESPN Insider section, they talked about a package of Curry, Duhon and Chandler for T-Mac

Chandler makes 1.2Mil

If they want to trade T-Mac's 23Mil contract NY will have to give up some decent sized contracts. Lee has an expiring 7Mil contract, which would be a starting point. Harrington's 10Mil/yr contract could also be a possibbility.

New Yorks expirings:

Harrington-10Mil
Mobley (retired)-9.5Mil
Robinson-4Mil
Duhon-6Mil
Lee- 7Mil
Hughes- 13Mil
Milicic- 7.5Mil

Looking at that list, i'm guessing Larry hughes would probably be a Rocket along with one of the others.

That's only about 18Mil in contracts for T-Mac's 23+Mil.
Is that enough?

Expiring contracts don't improve the Rockets as T-Mac's deal is expiring too.

Yeah, and the knicks would save a lot more money by giving up non expirings for an expiring while keeping their current expirings.

Ok now i'm dizzy.

Their pick goes to the Jazz and it's not lottery protected.

It was sent to Phoenix for Marbury, who then sent it to Utah for Gugliotta.
It was lottery protected until 2009.
