Jazz Kirilenko demands 5.8Mil to play for Real Madrid

Quote:
Will Andrei Kirilenko play overseas this season?

It's an obvious option for Kirilenko, an unrestricted free agent after playing out a six-year, $86 million contract with the Jazz.

Kirilenko has talked about playing in Russia, his homeland, or for teams in Europe.

According to Marca.com, Kirilenko recently approached Spanish League power Real Madrid about a contract, but the club balked over his $5.8 million salary request.

Kirilenko was paid $17.8 million last season, when injuries again limited his contribution to the Jazz. In 64 games, he averaged 11.7 points and 5.1 rebounds.

Kirilenko has said all along his No. 1 career choice would be re-signing with Utah. It could happen, too, if he's willing to return for considerably less than what he is used to making in the NBA.

On a team as young as the Jazz, a reasonably priced veteran like Kirilenko who knows Utah, knows coach Tyrone Corbin and knows the NBA could be valuable.

Deron Williams is playing for substantially less then that so Kirilenko needs to get real. Plus he hasn't even played that well recently.

I think he's just trying to "anchor" the price so that during the negotiations it will result in a higher final price.

Real Madrid must be crazy to pay him so much money.I really don't believe this. They'd have much better players from NBA for that amount of money

not sure that all this euro teams are so willing to sign players they don't know will be there for the entire season, expecially EL teams. What if lockout ends and a great number of NBA players return to USA?

No EL team will spend a lot of money to a player who will have a chance to come back. Zalgiris locked Weems for a season, the same would happen with Andrei.

Is the 5.8 with an NBA return clause. Because If he is committed to the team it is kind of reasonable. D-Will got 5.5 and can return as so as the lock out is over.

He's gonna make 18 million next year for Utah.
Sounds like a bargain to me.

Good question. I think the EL is aiming for free agents that they can lock up for the whole year since they don't have an NBA contract that they're tied to. That would include guys like Weems and Kirilenko.

My best bet is that all the under contract players who are making noise about going to Europe are basing it on leverage. They want the league to come back to the bargaining table but don't think they'll bargain in good faith unless they have a leverage ploy to use against them so they're using the EL threat as the leverage.

That's what he made last year. He's a free agent now and won't get anywhere close to that in the NBA this year, especially if the league gets it's way at the negotiating table.

If I'm Kirilenko, I'm taking the full $5.8 million in Europe because he won't get that here.
