Kings Waive Gooden

Kings waive Gooden; Spurs next? - NBA - Yahoo! Canada Sports
Quote:
Drew Gooden agreed to a buyout with the Sacramento Kings and the San Antonio Spurs are the favorite to sign him for the rest of the regular season and playoffs, two league executives said on Sunday night.

Gooden had come to the Kings on Feb. 19 in a trade with the Chicago Bulls, but it had been expected that the last-place Kings would buy him out, save some money and allow the power forward to move to a contender. The Cleveland Cavaliers are also a contender for Gooden.
Cavs interested in ''surprise FA''
RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Cavs Interested In 'Surprise' Free Agent?
Quote:
There are mounting rumors that the Cavaliers might be interested in a "surprise" free agent.

Cleveland has long been linked to Oklahoma City's Joe Smith, who is reportedly close to a buyout, but another well-known veteran forward could hit the market.

A source said that the player's name would "surprise" a lot of people should he receive a buyout and become a free agent.
Hmm...

I am sick of high paid players being waived and the signing with a contender.

Its amazing how this buyout can affect who wins the title this year so heavily. Whats the deadline for players to sign with a team to be elligible to play in the playoffs? If the Spurs or Cavs get Gooden they have to be the favorites to win it all IMO.

I think they had to be waived by midnight Sunday to be eligible for their new team in the playoffs.

This is such a bullshit move.

If the Spurs get Gooden they essentially get the shot in the arm that they've been needing... without having to lose anyone of consequence.

Boy I love the NBA sometimes.

I would hate to see Gooden on the Spurs, and I think they probably would as well. I think people make way too much of what any of these bums can do for any team. The only story is that they get a load of money just to get lost.

Gooden's not the sharpest tool in the shed and I can see Popovich benching him for extended periods or getting infuriated when he makes bone-headed mistakes. Gooden'll probably fit better with the Cavs as he's played with that team before.

No offence, but I think if Glenn Robinson can play extended minutes with the Spurs without getting benched multiple times then Drew Gooden can.

Gooden gets a bad rep for being a dummy... but fact is, he can rebound. and thats all he needs to go out there and do.
he isnt a chemistry killer... he doesnt effect a lockeroom negatively... he's a great player for any team to luck into.
if he goes to spurs... wow... look out LA.
if he goes to Cavs....boston's gonna have a problem.

when playoffs roll around, its all about Defence. Rebounding and second shot opportunities are the difference maker. Gooden will make any contender a legitimate NBA title team. imagine that.

And Gooden can hit the midrange jumper and jump hook in the halfcourt which makes him a very nice compliment to Duncan or Lebron.

Getting a legit 12 and 10 guy off the bench is huge for any team. Mike Brown his his bad bball IQ for the most part, its not like the guy tanks games or anything, hes just dumb. Stupidity can be masked with a bunch ofreally good players around you.
