Kings retire Divac's No. 21 jersey

Quote:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. Vlade Divac never gets tired of being the center of attention in Sacramento, and now a piece of the groundbreaking Serbian star will always hang over the Kings' home court.

Divac's No. 21 jersey was retired Tuesday night at Arco Arena, Divac's home for six seasons. They were the best days of the centre's 16-year NBA career, Divac said in an emotional halftime ceremony during the Kings' game against New Orleans.

Divac has moved back home to Serbia, where he advises governments, runs the national Olympic committee and oversees an international humanitarian organization. But he'll always be at home in California's capital city, which embraced him from his first game in purple back in 1999.

"It's interesting going around the city, and people are still talking about our group of guys," Divac said of his Sacramento teams, which won two Pacific Division titles and never had a losing record.

Good for him. He is a really good player and I think he deserves it.

Divac will be known for being one of the NBA's best passing Big men ever. Even though Shaq dominated him.

Divac was overrated.
he had good hands, but thats all.

i still dont see how sacramento retires him jersey.
he played there for 6 years...
averaged 12/7...
was never an all-star...
didnt win jack.

we should just go ahead and retire Antonio Davis' jersey.
its the same damn thing.

i disagree insider. it's not just a numbers thing. he was the leader and the central focus of that team, and even tho they didn't win it was a huge era for the franchise. ad never had that kind of role in toronto.

Vlade was a little better than Antonio. I bet Doug Christie wouldn't think twice about it.

i think this takes away from the credibility of retiring numbers.
the whole idea of retiring a player's number is to retire the great players jersey. was divac a great?

i can understand if he played like 15 seasons for a team, but divac only played 6.
i dunno man.

Who cares how long he played there.

He meant a lot to the team and the city.

Let them have thier moment together okay.

I think he deserves it. He was a good player and helped them through those seasons when they were actually good
