Default Kick Ball- Anyone have a rulebook?

Just being technical for a second(and because there was a big argument on the playgrounds where I played last week on this and I think the guy is out of his damn mind):

When a team is on offence, and for example, a pick and roll is run, the guard passes it to the bigman, the pass gets tipped, goes off the roll mans foot, roll man picks it up, lays it in, is it a kick ball?

And, if the ball wasnt tipped, and he picked it up, is it a kick ball?

And in general, if the ball goes off a players foot, whether by bad pass or by accident, is it a kick or does there have to be forward motion or intent with the foot?

What is the true definition of kick ball and does it apply more to defence than offence because on defence you see it called even when there is no intent.

Anyone with a clear explanation from a rulebook or they just know give me the 411 please.

Has to be intentional to be a kick ball. Doesn't matter whether or not it was tipped.

I think it's kind of like the hand ball rule in soccer..it's not really definate but rather a judgement call..

more or less it has to be/look intentional to warrant a whistle..

the only time you really see it called is when someone blocks a pass intentionally..rarely called on a deflection unless the kicker directs it to a team mate..

It's only called if it was intentional.

no, it doesnt have to be intentional... some refs will call it regardless of the circumstances. if the wasnt tipped it would be a kick ball and posession would go to the defence. since it was tipped, posession stays with the offence
