Default Kevin and his Momma

Am I the only one that finds it a little unsettling that Durant turns to his mother when he should be sharing in a moment with his teammates? They win against the Spurs, but 15 seconds before the game is over he's celebrating with Mom. Last night his team loses a must-win gruelling contest, and he goes straight to Mom within seconds of the game's completion and looked like he felt it was over already. The guy has no sense of the appropriate time for these things. Mom is not on the team, and your team needs you to be there. Fulfill those responsibilities and then when the win is in the books and you've high-fived everyone in blue, or when the loss comes and you show everyone else that there is still a chance to regroup and meet the challenge that still awaits, then you can go to Mom or whoever else you choose.

To not to do so feeds into the biggest problem with OKC - everyone playing on an island. They don't need to stick together like glue off the court, but at least let the results of what happened on the court settle into the team's consciousness for a moment before looking to share your emotions with anyone else. No?

I think it's fine, there is plenty of time spent with Teammates to be a leader or give and recieve support. Dude brings it, you don't really need more from him.

If you wanna call him a Mamma's Boy, thats fine, because he is, but in the moment it doesn't really matter I don't think.

Its a moment with his mom he loves his team and has great values. Its not like he is leaving on game day to go to his graduation or anything

I suppose it would be better if a teammate went to her?

I was saying this in the SA series;

1. Shake your opponents hand
2. Celebrate with your teammates
3. Hug Momma

At the same time it can be hard trying to get moms to know their place.

Players need to be careful not to let their moms get to involved - it can be a very bad thing ala Michelle Carter.

Ray Allen's mom is a great example for moms. Always there cheering - maybe every now and then talks a little smack. All good.

A childhood friend of mine had his NHL career ruined by his mom being to involved.

Sure, it's ok if he gets the job done, but he hasn't gotten the job done. To immediately go to your mother for solace when there is still at least one game left to be played doesn't show me a lot of commitment to fight to the end. He should be finding solace in knowing what he and his teammates have accomplished and still can accomplish. He should be a source of solace for others. It's not being a momma's boy that I find unsettling. He's hardly alone in that respect. But there is a time and a place to be a leader for the team and show that they truly win and lose together, and this stuff makes me think he comes up a little short in that department for now.

For those who find everything about him above any kind of critical concern, I deeply apologize. I guess the losses are simply the fault of anyone but him.

Agreed. It was bizarre watching all the Thunder going off the court while he sat there with his mom for what felt like way too long. It was already sketchy he celebrated with his mom after that win with time on the clock. Twice is pushing it.

Lebron would be getting roasted if he was playing like Durant is right now and then crying with his mom. I can't even imagine going on the internet if their roles were reversed right now. It would be a Lebron bonfire.

I was saying the exact same thing to my buddy at work today.
Durant has disapeered the last few games (especially in the 4th). had that been Lebron, the meme's and pics about him choking in the fourth, folding under pressure, etc would be insane.
i'm very unimpressed with KD in these finals... where has he gone?

actually, where the hell is Harden? that whole hoopla about OKC choosing Harden over Westbrook should be put to bed already.

Who cares if he's a mommas boy? The guy is still 23 and probably has a really close relationship with her. If you didn't feel disheartened to see Durant hug his parents after tonight's loss, you have no soul

You like seeing that much emotion in a player. Better then punching a fire extinguisher.

bosh cries down the hallway to the locker room after losing to dallas last year and he gets made fun of...

Durant always goes to his mom after every game. Regular season or playoffs. If you can't admire the close relationship he has with his mom you're one soulless cunt. Why are we picking on these little things wow. I guarantee you not one OKC player gives a fuck that KD hugs his mom and finds solace in it or celebrates a big win with Mom on the court.

KD is as good a teammate as you can possibly ask for, perhaps TOO good of a teammate. LOL such a pathetic thing to give Durant shit for, honestly.

Don't forget people making fun of Adam Morrison for MONTHS after he broke down at the end of a college game.

If you're looking for objectivity you're in the wrong place my friend.
