Karl Malone set the fitness standard!
You know all this talk about Bosh, Bargnani etc. And thier frailty, reminded me of another guy. Karl Malone.
Malone, like him or hat ehim, was a specimen, he was built more like LT than he was MJ and because of that, played many seasons in the NBA as a hard nosed, physical player. If you ever wonder what it means to own the paint, watch Malone tapes. He pushed, shoved, elbowed and basically took the paint from the other guy, because he wanted it. Here's a link to a typical workout of his.... keep in mind this was a workout, year round usually, with a lighter load during the season. There were no Charity games, EA sports film shoots, Youtube video's promoting Allstar appearances. There was just KArl, a gym, and 100's of ours of dedication to his team and his sport. Thats the guy I grew up liking, and watching. I used his success as a motivation when I wa straining for my own sports and I fpound a level of success because of it. Respect to Malone on this level. ![]() http://www.coachmarian.de/Spezials/W...outSecrets.htm |

![]() Malone was a freak of nature when it came to his physical stature. But for someone as good as he was, he certainly was one of the more awkard looking players in the association. I just can't believe how successful his career really was.

![]() by far my favorite player growing up. i remember seeing a special on NBC (god i miss the nba on nbc sunday tripleheaderfests!) about his training regimen, and him debunking the myth that doing intense upperbody workouts would hinder a player's jumpshot.
He worked his upper body a lot, and had a great mid-range game. His philosophy, and one I think power forwards looking to expand their game into a face up mid-range game should take seriously, was to strengthen the shoulders and forearms to take the stress off of the legs over the course of both a 48 minute game and a season. Which isn't to say he was a proponent of a flatfooted set shot, but more of a balance between the the lower and upper body. Malone had an incredible touch around the basket, great hands, and was a tremendous passer out of the double-team. Nice post SJ. It brought back some nice memories. |

![]() malone was a dirty piece of shit.
it turned my stomach inside out when i cheered for utah to beat the bulls. david robinson was the bionic man. for a body of his stature, it was inhuman to have the built that he had. |

![]() He has a son in the NFL now, he never gave him a dime and told him to leave him alone when he turned 18, he is a low life POS of life.
He didnt really own the paint, he loved the jumpers, he was good in the paint, but nowhere near the best. |
