FG% is a stat man. So, no, Stack's stats didn't lie at all. Stats only lie if you don't look at the whole picture. Comprehensive stats tell pretty much the whole story.

And Okafor shits on Smith as a defender. No argument there. Smith is an elite shot blocker, but too often people confuse that with an elite defender. Okafor's best part of his game is defense, and he's an excellent shot blocker as well.

And the Atlanta Hawks coaching staff deserves more scorn than Smith for a lack of fundamentals. VERY few elite high school players that are 6'9 with freakish athleticism learn how to box out and play proper defense. They don't have to.

When a team drafts a high school player it's their responsibility to get him up to speed on those things.

I guess it could be Smith being stubborn and not wanting to learn, but given the coaching he's had in his career, I see no reason to assume that is the case.

Overall, Smith will be a better player at the end of both their respective careers.

I don't think either are wonderful fits beside Kaman, I don't think either will make the team as good as if they had Brand, and I don't think either will get them past a 7th or 8th seed in the West next year at best... but I'd take Okafor between the two. He's a good, smart defender, and with Kaman the two could outrebound any team in the league.

Deng wouldn't be a bad choice either, if only there wasn't a gaping Tim Thomas sized hole at PF they need to fill right now.
