Josh Smith: NBA Stands for Nothing But Associates

Quote:

Josh Smith was left off the All-Star roster by the Eastern Conference coaches, who picked the reserves earlier this week.

“You’ve got to factor in there is a lot of politics involved in the All-Star selection,” Smith said Friday. “Once you get that it’s really about politics, then nothing really surprises you. I call it ‘Nothing But Associates,’ NBA. It’s all who you know.”

Andre Iguodala, Paul Pierce, and Luol Deng were chosen as reserve forwards.

Smith said “I guess I don’t know the right people” and didn’t have people lobbying on his behalf.

“I can’t really point a finger and blame anybody because, at the end of the day, when you leave it up to certain people that still have ties to their agents, [and] players in this game today probably [are] just putting in a bid over the phone, or however they do it,” he said. “You have to factor that in.”

he should've kept his mouth shut. I understand the frustration but this is not going to help his rep with the coaches.

Fine incoming! Duck!

I hate Smith. Why does he think he deserves to be an all-star? Two seasons ago he made huge strides to improve his shot selection. He shot just 0.1 threes a game. People were talking about him being the most improved player. Then this idiot goes right back to what didn't work and started launching threes and long jumpers again. Atlanta fans boo this fool when he takes jumpers. He's a good defensive player with great athleticism and the tools to be a very good player. Has a bird brain though.

I'm sure Kevin Love knows a lot of people in Minnesota :cookie: He's just really good.

ValanciunasFanboy 02-12-2012 05:32 PM

to be fair, i think he probably deserves it this year but if I could vote, I wouldn't vote for him because I can't stand the guy... And because I just don't think he can be the best player on a playoff team for full year and the playoffs. And because it's been 25-30 games, and I just can't judge based on 25-30 games if there's bad history; after 25-30 games last season, Pau Gasol was the best player in the NBA and Mike Beasley looked like an All Star.

so maybe he's right, it's not all about deserving.

I like that Smith had the guts to call it what it is.

lankganglia 02-12-2012 06:45 PM

to get two allstars on atlanta would mean none from the cs, or 76ers, ect.

Atlantas best bid for an allstar is johnson, so smith losses out, and he;s making sure he will always lose out by being a crybaby

Superjudge 02-12-2012 06:50 PM

ya I dont doubt that his snub has justification...its more the can of worms he wasnt afraid to open, because really, the NBA is likely the most manipulative and unfair leagues around IMO...I like that a player isn't afraid to call it what it is, whether he's a bit off on his own personal assessment of his skills or not. Know what I'm saying?

I think the point about Johnson is really relevant. In my opinion, Johnson was selected because of positional circumstance. The East had guard spots to fill. Johnson is not necessarily the most deserving Hawk player, though. Unfortunately for Smith, there were several other deserving forwards in the East. Bosh, Peirce, Deng and Iggy are all deserving. And once you've already got Johnson on the East roster, it's easier to justify recognizing someon from other teams.

He probably should have been there over Pierce, but not so obviously that he needs to play the victim. Too bad. I keep wanting to like him. Just play.

Cry baby

When his own fans dont think he should get in that should tell people something is wrong with the guy.

The only guy he could have made it in over arguably was his own teammate. Everyone else deserved it more than him.

TORaptor4Ever 02-12-2012 11:10 PM

Based on his game against MIA tonight he certainly didn't look like he was trying to prove anything.

Adrian Wojnarowski weighed in...

Still hard to comprehend Joe Johnson over Josh Smith for East All-Stars. Smith isn't perfect, but few do so much on floor. 30 and 17 tonite.

Superjudge 02-16-2012 09:06 AM

Even if he isn't worthy, it's the stance I like. The NBA crushes people that oppose or question its lack of business ethics. I like that Smith took a stand.
