Question Jordan vs. Kobe

Discuss

Could Bryant even hold Jordan's jockstrap? Keep in mind that I'm saying this while I'm someone who can't stand Michael Jordan so this isn't a playing favourites debate, but his playoff performance just reconfirms that Shaq definitely deserved the credit he got back with the Lakers when they last won.

Kobe just hasn't showed up for when it counts the most. His performance last night was pretty sad and even if Jordan had an off night he always seemed to find a way to get his teammates to step up and perform. How come Kobe can't do that with Odom, Gasol and company? Same coach, so you can't use Phil as an excuse.

For an interesting article I found this good write-up from ESPN back in 2001 regarding this same debate. Can Kobe and Michael Jordan be mentioned in the same sentence together still to this day?

Magic doesn't count in this discussion .... strictly MJ vs. Kobe.

Plus, Magic had a stronger supporting crew during his dynasty days. Magic wouldn't of been Magic without Kareem and James Worthy.

MJ then.

Kareem was already 32 when Magic got there and in the later stages of his career, so he, Worthy and Scott wouldn't have been anybody without Magic.

MJ was sooooooo much better that Kobe is. I'm not much of a Kobe fan to begin with so it's a no brainer for me.Plus Kobe is too selfish,i don't even think he's as good as Lebron.

Yeah well Kobe wouldn't have won three championships without Shaq!

a choice between the two and i'd take kobe. i wouldn't want mj in my lockerrroom, and i honestly don't think that kobe (if at all) is far behind talent-wise.

the most respectful thing about kobe is that he wants to cover his oppositions best player. jordan on the other hand made all-defensive teams covering 3rd-4th options.

He wasnt that bad in the game. Kobe can be a ball hog sometimes but Gasol and Odom are the ones not really stepping up in the important minutes. Kobe has some bad things and he is not as good as MJ but he is pretty close. And I dont understand all the ""he needs shack to win" after defeating 4-0 Denver, 4 -2 Utah and 4 - 1 San Antonio.

And this is not over yet annyway.

In the media they are such bandwagoners, Kobe was God until he lost a couple of games.
Kobe hasnt been that good in the finals, but do they expect him to do everything?
This is a team game, the whole is to blame.

Amen. About time someone other than me steps up to defend Kobe.

Im not that big of a fan of Kobe myself. but I just cant stand how people change their concepts from one day to another. The lakers almost the beat celtics being down 26 with 7 minutes left in the game. Does that make the celtics chokers too then.

If it wasnt for Bryant and Vujajic it would have been a 3 - 0.

Kobe has to be blamed for the loss in game 4, but not as much as Gasol and Odom.

Without even considering last nights game there is just no way he is even in the top 10 right now. He probably will be, but I doubt he ever cracks the top 5. The way the TV guys are hyping him as the greatest ever is just sad and transparent. I respect the way he has not encouraged the comparisons himself.

Oh - and I don't think Kobe is a great teammate. MJ might not have been great either at times, but he had better instincts in that regard than Kobe.

Stats aren't everything, and the championships were won by Shaq. Not Kobe;although he helped a lot. That's all I have to say.
