Default John Wall

Is it just me or does anyone else think this guy is way over hyped?

Granted I haven't watched a ton of his games but from what I have seen, he turns the ball over frequently and it appears to me he racks up his points and assists because he has free reign to do whatever he wants? I think lot of players could do that if given the minutes. For a guy I have been hearing about for 2 years pretty much a guarantee first overall pick I guess I am just not wowed by him.

Thoughts?

turnovers are a lot more frequent in college cause the game is more out of control, defenses are more active and a lot more full court presses
you have to realize he is a freshman leading a team of mostly freshman and they are a championship caliber team
you forgot to mention his defense, averaging 2 steals per and he's 6'4'' quick and athletic
there aren't many quality PG's in this draft either, Scottie is probably 2nd best and he's a late lottery to mid first pick
Kentucky coach also groomed other successful one a done players, Rose and Evans
17 pts /7 ast/3.6 reb/2 stl 1.6/1 ast/to ratio, pretty good to me

to me its Turner then Wall

OK I might have sounded harsh.........i did not say the kid doesn't have game but I just wasn't left breathless by his play like he is the second coming. I honestly havent watched ( I stated that in my first post) enough games of him.

Hopefully I will get a good look at him during the tourney.

Thanks for the replies!

They've said his more game is suited to NBA-style basketball anyways. Defenses are more spread out giving him more room to operate, more isolations, etc.

I would say he is overhyped but I have never seen him play.

But just saying, I relate, feel like anything short of Micheal Jordan 4.0 (Kobe being 2.0, LBJ 3.0) would be a disappointment at this point. just kidding

It surprises me though in general that just like last year there is this one kid that is the sure number one pick and the rest is a guessing game. Just like Griffin, and Rose too perhaps. Coincidence that one just stands out ahead of the pack that much that it's not a question?

In 07 there was controversy over who would go first, Oden, or Durant, although people mostly knew that Oden would be first.

I don't know about this kid, haven't seen him play as I barely watch NCAA, but I'm in love with Evan Turner's play!

John Wall is the real deal. Although many experts say this NCAA year is more of a "down year" comparing to talent that has come out of their in the past. John Wall is definately the best guard that will come out of this class.

Personally, I hope Wes Johnson falls to mid round so the Raptors can pick him up. However; the way he been filling out the stat sheet this year I just don't think he'll come close to mid round.

I don't think he's the best prospect since Lebron as some label him. I'd say best since Rose. Kind of a cross between both those guys actually, IMO..

Wall can score at will we can say that, already mastered many of the hardest ways to score such as the pullup 3 point jumper, aggresive lay-ups and his floaters very well.

However on defense he leaves his man very open, barely keeps an eye on him and leaves him and uncomfortable amount of space (however I'm talking about his away from the ball defense, his on-ball defense is pretty good) , so cutters or spot up shooters can easily score at will on him.

He might be a little overhyped and I just have a gut feeling he might become a OJ Mayo type of player

An OJ May player I dunno. However; this years NCAA crop is pretty average so he may just very well be.

Also, I don't think its fair to judge NCAA players on defense. Heck most of the players in college can't play very good D. Reasons why some teams get away with playing zone for large portions of the game (in cuse's case almost all). I'd just focus on his O ability for now he'll learn D in the NBA as most players do.

If he improves his jumpshot, I see John Wall eventually becoming a top 10 PG in the league.
In regards to turning over the ball, its the NCAA and not very organized at all ...

Nothing wrong with being another OJ Mayo. Mayo has improved a ton this year only in his 2nd season and has the potential to be a 23+ PPG SG on very efficient numbers and good defence. He rarely forces things yet still puts up 18 ppg on a stacked offensive team. Mayo is gonna break out once Rudy is gone.

Wall, from what I've seen, is going to be a fantastic NBA PG. Quickness, shooting, jumping ability, and getting to wherever he wants on the floor. He'll obviously have a learning curve in terms of NBA offence but if he adapts quickly the sky is the limit because he has all the abiliy in the world. I dont know if he'll be as good as I think Rose is gonna become though.
