Default Joe Johnson traded to Nets

Sources: Nets agree to Hawks trade

The Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks have agreed to terms on a deal that will bring Joe Johnson to New York, sources told ESPN.com.

The deal is contingent on Deron Williams agreeing to stay with the Nets.

The Hawks, according to sources, would get Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar, Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, DeShawn Stevenson (via sign-and-trade) and the Rockets' 2013 lottery protected first round pick.

The Nets, in addition to Johnson, retain full $5 million mid-level exception (to sign Bosnian forward Mirza Teletovic) and $1.95 million bi-annual exception to keep adding to their roster.

Brooklyn would also keep MarShon Brooks and free agent Gerald Green, while convincing Atlanta to take a first-round pick (via Houston), in this deal, sources said.

The Nets had been involved in discussions to acquire disgruntled center Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic but sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that the Magic front office "didn't want to dance" with the Nets.

Though Howard said Brooklyn is the only team that, were he to be traded there, he would sign an extension. The Nets were amenable to that earlier this year, before Howard elected to waive his opt-out clause with Orlando.

"Dwight blew it in March," a source told Broussard.

The Nets have traded away a lot of first round picks within the last year or so.

Yeah, 2 NY teams is going to put a lot of pressure on us, since they're both huge FA destinations.

This is one of the worst trades in NBA history. Billy King really knows how to one up himself. Seriously, this is awful. I guess we take take some solace that BC isn't THIS bad.

I might not like Joe Johnson's contract but he can still play at a high level. I just hope Deron Williams doesn't stay with the Nets and heads for Dallas. That may prompt Howard to consider another destination when he's a UFA

Billy King and the Nets are all in. He's a bad GM. They just mortgaged their whole future when they traded for Deron Williams.

Johnson- 22Mil (ish) per
Wallace- 10Mil per

+ Lopez

Nets look like this right now if Williams/Teletovic sign:

Williams
Johnson/Brooks/Taylor
Wallace
Teletovic
Lopez

Humpries FA

Wow!! Incredible trade for the Hawks, horrible trade for the Nets. What are the nets going to do with Joe Johnson and his horrible contract? Nobody should ever of traded to get Joe Johnson, he has one of the worst contracts in NBA history.

I am shocked... What do they see in Joe Johnson? Do they think they are going to win a championship or something? The GM should be fired just for thinking about Joe Johnson, terrible move... and I'm sure every GM in the NBA would agree.

This is why nobody should ever say any contract can't be moved.

King just took back like 90 million over four years and the last year pays Johnson 25 million. Not sure if he has a trade kicker in there. On top of that he gives up another first round pick.

I will say it again - if Nets pursued a guy who has $90 million on his deal and kills future flexibility - Deron Williams knew and approved.

They don't have any money to spend on Howard lol. Like 42 or so on Williams and Johnson another 10 for Wallace maybe another 10 on Lopez. Guys like Johnson can't be moved.
