Suns JO goes nuts on Suns GM

Sources: Jermaine O'Neal has heated confrontation with Suns GM - Yahoo! Sports

Quote:
Phoenix Suns center Jermaine O'Neal and general manager Lance Blanks engaged in a blistering, expletive-laced confrontation in the coach's office on Monday, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

"It was really bad," one Suns source said Tuesday afternoon.

The confrontation happened after interim coach Lindsey Hunter's first practice and unfolded within earshot of several Suns players in the locker room, sources said.

O'Neal is frustrated with the direction of the Suns' rebuild and wanted more clarity on his future this season, a source with knowledge of the confrontation said. At 13-28, the Suns have the worst record in the Western Conference.
O'Neal signed a one-year deal in the offseason with Phoenix.

The Arizona Republic reported Tuesday that O'Neal missed practice with an "unstated medical issue" and wouldn't make the team's trip to Sacramento.
Blanks didn't immediately respond to a text message.

The Suns fired coach Alvin Gentry and replaced him with Hunter, who worked in player development and has no coaching background.

O'Neal has averaged 6.4 points and four rebounds a game for the Suns in his 16th season in the NBA.

I'm confused.... did he honestly think that the Suns were going to be good this season?

If he wanted to sign a 1-yr deal there were a host of teams who could've used his services.... teams that are in search of a title. BOS. NYK. MIA.

Not sure where his head's at.

The Suns took a turn for the worse once Steve Kerr left.

Sources: Jermaine O'Neal has heated confrontation with Suns GM - Yahoo! Sports

Quote:
Initially, O'Neal had expressed disappointment that his veteran stature hadn't dictated the front office turning to him for counsel in the recent coaching change, a league source told Y! Sports. When O'Neal kept challenging Blanks, the discussion started to become an argument and ultimately a screaming match.
Get over yourself, dawg.

There were questions about his health this summer. Boston waived him before last season's playoffs even started. Since the Celts waived him last year, it's not O'Neal's choice to go to Boston. They didn't want him.

The Knicks had Camby and Kurt Thomas to play behind Chandler. I don't see how they needed O'Neal.

Miami plays a lot of small ball. They weren't really in the market for a player like O'Neal.

He didn't get signed until the middle of August because most teams didn't think he had anything left. A lot of contenders are already paying tax and although they're willing to spend, they don't piss away $1.3 mill on the vet min for no reason if they don't think the guy will play.

Phoenix was likely one of his only choices. And the captain obvious point for why he might have chosen the Suns is because they have a fantastic medical staff known for extending the careers of guys with a history of injuries. If he wanted to extend his career by 2 or 3 years, just to be able to play at all, then Phoenix was a good place to go.

Apparently the assistant coaches Majerle and Turner wanted the interm coaching gig but hunter who has only been with the suns 5 months got it.

They didn't show up for any practices and have since left the team.

i guess it just comes down to whether or not you think paying the extra 1.2m is worth not having to deal with the headache.
